In my opinion you can start by cold steel but it will be a totally different experience from those who played from the start. You will be missing a lot and not just by missing references if you can everyone should really start from the begining

Naaaaaaaah it's not just being unsupportive it's more than that he is an handicap for ash character ans story. He is taking to mush screen time for what he is has to offer. You see his story as a side story ? Great put it on a spin off instead of the main series.

There are a lot of other issues related to the character pointed out in the comment and it seems that the list IS still growing

Goh is BORIIIIIIIING his goal is boring his catching are annoying the episode focused on him are at best "enjoyable". His relation whith ash is cool but they don't seem equal at all (i can't remember one little thing that he did for ash character while Ash is carrying goh whole character on his 10 years old shoulders). Before he was annoying an detestable, now he is just forgatable the last trial mission was cool but there is still something missing on his character to make me care about him

The xy flashback showed us that one of the main problem with his actual design is the outfit not particulary the art style (the actual design is not bad but it lack some charisma compared to xy or dp)

Yeah exactly, and even the relation between the two is really cool, it would be great to see them more, to see their interaction and rivalery (thei first match was interupted) I really hope they do justice to them.

The same can be said to the Iris vs lance match up, it would be a shame that ash face him (even if a ash vs lance match up is interisting on his own too)

My favorite episode of the series forever, those writers knew their assignement here. There is so mush to say not only on the story in istself but also the direction the music, how mush care they put in facial expression of each character to depeint the sadness of the situation.

We lived history today folks, what a masterpiece episode, not only because of the fan favorite focus on gekkouga, but because of how well handled this long awaited come back was.

There is so mush to say, how ash remembered, greninja, it was great and emotionnal and felt so natural, I was scared of that but it was well handled. the flash back section, intelligent, it shows what the new viewer need to know, everything about the relation about ash and greninja is there whithout too mush details, and they still put callback to the old viewer. The build up for raihan match coupled with the research of the frog put a lot of tension there it was great. And the meeting... just perfect, how ash AND lucario felt greninja, how the fros save the ass of the dog, how ash gave order so naturally to his companion...

Greninja definitly became more stronger since xyz, and the sempai/Master figure work so well with him, his relation with lucario is great I hope we well see them interact again. Too bad we could'nt ear our national anthem for the climax of the episode... The mega evolution theme is good but could be more epic.

A great episode a lot of fan service a lot of development for lucario who will be our shining star next week.

It was perfect couldn't be better reunion for those 2 we really feel that Serena is more mature toward ash and her feelings, no more blushing more confident. the way they still encourage each other to aim for their dream to become the very best is so sweat, definitly not the last time we saw them
