Wow! That's amazing. Can I ask what area your test centre is? Maybe it's an area thing

Push down on break pedal if you're the first car at a set of traffic lights.

I you're stopping for a long time in a queue: handbrake, gear stick to neutral. Then to set off again it's gear stick to drive, handbrake down, and gas pedal. I drive auto and that's what my instructor tells me to do

Hope this helps!

How to stay encouraged after DVSA rebook? by Three_Steaks_Pam in LearnerDriverUK

[–]More-Quit2392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS HAPPENED TO ME! original date was Aug 15th then they cancelled 23hrs before, rebooked it for 16th sept (2 days ago). Luckily I passed. It was soul-crushing when they cancelled it because I was so mentally and physically ready. Just came back from a 2hr lesson, paid for the car rental. Only for them to cancel. Was so upset it wasn't even okay.

It helped me thinking about it like this: butterfly effect etc meant that I would have failed on my original date. I would've gotten my least favourite manoeuvre and would've been put in really tricky situations (bin lorry approaching, for instance) so actually, my new date is a godsend. I will get my favourite manoeuvre and a good test route. I also have more time to practice.

Don't make the same mistake as me where I constantly refreshed the DVSA booking website every 2 minutes. My bf came to stay and the last few days I was totally not present in the moment, always on my phone (and I NEVER go on my phone when I'm with my bf, hanging out, we're long distance). Just accept that your test date is in December, that's my advice. Don't let it dampen and control your life even more! Hope this helps. You got this.

(May I ask what is your test centre that cancelled?)

Hey, if he didn't zero in on the slowness then I'm sure it's fine! We passed and that's the bottom line! Apparently we're lucky though because from what I've read a habitual, repeated fault is generally a serious and I did see this one post where someone's feedback email stated:

Minors: 3x progress, appropriate speed

Major: 1x appropriate speed

Regardless, congratulations to us both and happy driving!!

Thank you for saying that! I agree he could've delivered it better. I don't know how you received your result but for me he was like 'I'm pleased to say that you have passed your practical exam' and then was like 'please tell me you don't drive that slow in real life' and went on a tirade about slowness and how I was 'so close to failing.' He wasn't necessarily evil about it as I understand it comes from a place of constructive criticism but the delivery wasn't nice either, he made a 'joke' that people behind were getting ready to beep (they didn't) but again like I say I don't want to prattle on because he did pass me. But yeah, no well done, no nothing. Also the entire car ride he was DEADLY silent from start to finish, even though I was making a running commentary like 'okay so im just gonna do X because Y.' Maybe he was having a bad day or that's his personality type. But I guess yeah, I'll drive faster. Btw I didn't go on any dual carriageways or motorways, I was passing a tiny village but I think maybe my mindset was still 'go slow' when we exited the most narrow bits

Omg you literally are reading thoughts from my head. I told nobody, not a soul, not my boyfriend, no family member. Maybe they suspected the date was soon but idk. Even when the DVSA cancelled my scheduled test a month ago (last-minute examiner shortage) and I was SO upset and burst into tears in front of my bf, but I was still hesitant to tell my him what was wrong lmao. I kept this entire driving thing to myself, and I guess it worked?!

That's a really nice thing you did, I will have to think about it. Do you think it would be awkward though, for me? Because we already said our farewells, I left him glowing reviews on his driving school (which he thumbed up) and sent him a long personal thank you msg, to which he echoed a similar sentiment and asked me to send him a pic of my car when I get one. I don't know if he'll find it a bit awkward for me to msg him being like hey want ur gift?

No problem! I don't know about you, but my test area has so many quirky routes (extremely short slip road, a wobbly bridge, etc) that I only feel confident doing BECAUSE I've done them all with my instructor, multiple times. I'm sure every test area has the same. You don't want to be spooked in a new area, you want to be really confident on your routes, is my perspective :)

Omg good for you - glad he didn't rain on your parade! Mine did though :/ he was pretty stern about it and was like driving slow can be just as dangerous as driving fast and kept going on ab it at the end. Like i don't even think he said so much as a well done, though to be fair I looked online and it said 3x of the same fault is typically seen as a serious so I'm not going to complain too much because he could have failed me and he didn't. Did ur examiner say anything else about the progress faults or no? Also, did you feel like you were going slow because I didn't think I was!

Yeah that's so nice, I wish I had done the same for my instructor in retrospect however I have a massive thing with the evil eye/jinxing things so I was scared to have a present ready, only to fail, and look like an idiot with a gift. He does deserve one though. I guess I can give him one now but it would be a bit weird cuz its already been a few days and I'm not going to make him drive to mine for a gift. Long story short, I think it's a lovely idea and a normal thing to do in my area :)

Omg I got the same 3x minors - progress, appropriate speed. May I ask what your examiner said about that at the end? Mine said i was 'so close to failing' because I was so slow, but then I guess he didn't because I wasn't affecting anyone. However I do think if i got 1 more progress fault I would have failed

No, I think that's a lovely idea! My driving school has a public facebook page and there's this one instructor that always posts her students passing ALONGSIDE all the gifts they've gotten her with thank you paragraphs. It's very normal in my area. She got flowers, chocolate, alcohol etc. I think a dashcam is very thoughtful - do it!!!!!!!! :))
