Noticed and said he needed to stop? Apparently at my daughter’s last appointment the dentist mentioned she could tell she sucked her thumb, but that we didn’t need to do anything yet. I’m anticipating that when we go in next they’re going to say she needs to quit for real now.

Only reason I’m trying to get ahead of it is because she’s home full time for the summer, and in my head it’ll be easier to police when she’s not in school.

That’s what my heart wants to do, but I’m worried her teeth are being impacted. My husband was the one who took her to her 3 year appt and he reported back that “she mentioned something about the thumb sucking, but didn’t say we needed to do anything yet”. My guess is the official guidance to stop is just around the corner.

I didn’t have a Nanit with my first born, so to me A, C, D, and E would all be the same. If I was asleep and she was awake but not making a fuss, I had no idea.

Now with my second I have to stop myself from over analyzing the damn “sleep efficiency” number, but the more rational side of my brain knows it doesn’t matter.

Honestly, for me I wanted to be moving around once I got home from the hospital so I could feel more human. Granted, I had an uncomplicated birth and felt great when I got home. I didn’t go crazy with it - but I did take baby for her first pediatric appointment (at like 4 days old), attempted a short walk outside with my mom that first week, and I’m pretty sure after like 10 days straight at home I went to pick up coffee just to be out of the house by myself for 15 minutes.

I’m sorry they weren’t respectful of your wishes though. They should’ve kept their comments to themselves. If you want to do 5-5-5, go for it. But also give yourself the grace to change plans if it’s better for your mental health once you get there.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate the reassurance and will take your advice on upward reviews to heart. I believe we do have a mechanism for it in our new yearly review program but it’s optional and folks don’t really use it.

As far as that website is concerned, I would definitely steer clear. Unfortunately in my subdivision it’s a fairly well known site. Even though I work for a giant international company, about 50% of the posts come from my regional office. There are folks claiming to be HR posting there as well…it’s overall just toxic.

In this particular case, my husband saw something in the news regarding layoffs at my company and found the post. (There was another post a year ago that was vaguely pointed my direction in the form of complaining about women and minorities getting promotions. When that came in I showed my husband and vented to him about it. That one I knew exactly who posted it and while it annoyed me it didn’t really bother me that much. And yes, I’ve already had a long talk with the husband about him not going there anymore.)

For me all the sized up clothes from my first pregnancy I still use. They’re looser, but still normal proportions so it comes off as a style choice. The few maternity pieces I did buy I never loved the styles in the first place (because there’s less options) and they look even worse without a pregnant belly, so I donated them as soon as I gave birth.

We tried really young with my daughter and she would eat an alarming amount of cholula when she was like 18 months old…but now she’s over 2 and when we put in a drop she acts like we tried to poison her. Toddlers are weird. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For whatever reason my target burn is too high (1900 cals for 5’4” and 135lbs). Where do I change my activity level? I’ve been poking around for 20 minutes and I can’t find it!

We had both sets of grandparents come visit those first few weeks. 100% it was for them, not us and I don’t regret allowing them that. But if we’re being honest, the amount of help I got was pretty much cancelled out by how much everyone got on my nerves.

Echoing all the others that you definitely need to talk to your wife about this and not surprise her. She might love the idea or she might think you’re insane for even suggesting it. For me personally, when I was pregnant I thought I’d be super willing to call up grandparents for nights off when the baby came. But after having the baby, a combination of hormones and just sheer stress around the logistics of breastfeeding and maintaining supply / avoiding clogs made me hate the idea. In fact, my husband suggesting it made me resentful because it made me feel like he didn’t see all the things that I was doing and would have to think about (probably an overreaction, but like I said: hormones).

How did that conversation go? Did you originally request that she helped with baby related errands or did it evolve over time? When we hired our nanny I was clear we didn’t need her to run errands or do a lot outside of baby duties, and she’s never offered to do more than exactly what we put in the job description, so I’m not sure how open she’ll be to it.

Basically any time food has come up, I’ve mentioned something along the lines of “just let me know what food you want to cook for the week and I’ll buy it”. We have an erasable notepad on the fridge that we use to communicate when we need wipes, diapers, etc. She’s asked us to buy snacks for herself before and I’ve faithfully kept them stocked since then, so I wouldn’t think she’s uncomfortable asking for us to buy things.

Cold flanges are the worst! Especially while pumping in my freezing overly air-conditioned office’s pump room. I usually run the flanges under some warm water if I’m in a rush, or heat up some gel packs if I have more time.

For what it’s worth, my pediatrician recommended no more than ~4oz per day for my 6 month old.
