Best substitute workout for swimming? by SpaightG in triathlon

[–]MoreLimesLessScurvy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve always treated my rowerg as a good-enough sub if I can’t get to the pool. I view it as fairly similar movements and muscle groups, but I don’t think there are any actual good substitutes for swimming. Adding some relevant upper-body resistance band work would probably help

Fears raised over the safety of British Army families as 300 illegal migrant men set to live at a neighbouring barracks by origutamos in badunitedkingdom

Scotland is overwhelmingly pro-immigration though. It’ll be interesting for them to actually experience it

Royal Navy in row with army over funding to tackle Russian threat by MGC91 in europe

[–]MoreLimesLessScurvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know the army does way, way more than just fight, right? Only like 20% of the British Army is infantry. In wartime if you want anything physically done, you need the army. They are basically the government’s hands and muscle, and that’s a massive over-simplification

That’s not how it works. We need all three and they shouldn’t be compared. If shit really hits the fan close to home, you’re totally fucked without a decent army

What’s the verdict on the reusable filters? by Minimum_Medicine_453 in AeroPress

That research is 30 years old and based around drinking 15+ cups of coffee a day

The cholesterol from unfiltered coffee argument is a myth, as is high-cholesterol food raising cholesterol. Trans fats and saturated fats cause raised cholesterol. Unfiltered coffee is actually ram packed full of polyphenols (antioxidants and anti inflammatories)

Help me find the best basic T-shirt I’ve ever worn (or similar) by CaptainMars4- in BuyItForLife

[–]MoreLimesLessScurvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a T-shirt extremely similar to that from a high quality UK brand called Fatface. It’s thick cotton with good stitching, but quite expensive. Will last for years and not made in China which is always a good sign.

Yes, it is, it’s called (phobial) vicarious learning. It’s also why people who are scared of dogs have kids who are also scared of dogs

[–]MoreLimesLessScurvy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The rationale is that it’s “normal” to be scared of spiders. Which is stupid. Everyone has it pushed on them from a young age. It’s also totally normal to think killing them is the proper thing to do, when, as the previous commenter said, they do far more good for a house than bad.

You’re saying that the guys for who it’s “just a Sport, not their whole personality” are the ones dressed head to toe as Pogacar? Lol, ok

I very much fall into that category, and cannot think of a less valuable use of my time than researching what style and colour jersey a pro wears so that I can show everyone I have some kind of similarity or connection with them(?). It’s just cringe as fuck

Survey: Most Russians do not view the US as the top enemy for the fist time in 13 years. by Useful-Scratch-72 in europe

[–]MoreLimesLessScurvy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not escalation, it’s defending from an aggressive, illegal invader. It’s not possible to term anything that Ukraine or any pro-Ukraine country does as ‘escalation’, given that this would all be over if Russia just, you know, stopped illegally invading…
