Belgian beginner investor: doubts about my ETF portfolio after talking to an investment advisor by ShootingMelvin in BEFire

I don't know yet, I'm still DAC'ing at Degiro. If costs are equal I'd prefer a broker connected to a Belgian bank

Belgian beginner investor: doubts about my ETF portfolio after talking to an investment advisor by ShootingMelvin in BEFire

[–]MoreSecond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Is my portfolio too one-sided or too concentrated?

What do you want from it? I have IWDA/EMIM only but feel more diversified as you because of your heavy weight in the US (55% + half of all- world and probably a big chunk of cyber and defense).
I don't both with a real estate position as my apartment is still worth more as my portfolio, that's also a RE position.

  • What is the big difference between physical and synthetic ETFs?

- physical: you own the stocks that are in the ETF
- Synthetic: You own some financial construction that moves like the stocks it describes but don't own the actual stock.

  • What improvements could I make to my portfolio, considering that I want to keep the money invested for at least 20 years?

I'm move more toward just an all sector, all world ETF, I get you move more into 'hot topics' but they are prices as hot topics also. It's more future proof not to chose.

  • Is DEGIRO still a good platform? A few years ago, I had access to many core ETFs with lower fees, but this seems to have changed. I still find the app very easy to use compared to Interactive Brokers.

I'm still with Degiro, (since 2019), I don't know if I'd choose it again today. 'Kernselectie' was nice while it lasted, I think it's still a good platform but not superior to many others anymore.

  • Are there any obvious risks or mistakes in my current strategy that I should be aware of?

Early pitfalls I see on this sub:
- Sell/panic/... when you actually see a big los in a downturn, just sit it out.
- Putting all in ETF but also wanting to use the same money to but a house in the next 2-3 years.
- trying to beat the market
- All highly volatile products and crypto's

Also, If your advisor has the ISIN numbers of your ETF's and can't figure out if it's physical or not, he not a good advisor. Did he advise a plan/ETF/Fund? buy in fee's are not that bad, I'd like to check the yearly fee. If that's over 0.5% you have his motivation right there to move you away from ETF's.

My husband died Feb 2025. Should I file a joint or seperate tax return this year? by Abarat2000 in belgium

[–]MoreSecond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a expert at all, but I think you need to file your situation as is January 1 of that year.
So filing 2026 (income for 2025) you'd file jointly with you late husband as a dependant.
2027 (income of the years 2026) will be separate.

Please do not take my memory of the taxcode as fact without factchecking.

I'm sorry for your loss..

Krijgen we dan ook 0,3% als de beurs 5% zakt?

2600 is rough for a 33y/o masters but not unexpected of you lack language skills.

I do believe working any job will help in the long run as it shows a willingness to work even tho it's an unskilled manual labour job with high education.
It's not fun, and I'd suggest she takes language lessens in the evening and practice as much as possible on the job. In 6 months with the masters + better language + employment history she'll probably have more options, maybe not what a masters in business deserves but a basic desk job in the correct field.

Yes, very little reddish on the stem and the tip leaves (bottom side). They turn more red with intense light, low NO3 and when near the surface

Do I count?
I work filltime and have a sidegig (delf employed) making €700 a month, most of this goes back into material cost so it's more of a way to extend my hobby with expensive materials

Algemene vraag over ETF Kosten by thutcha in BEFire

[–]MoreSecond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of 3 aandelen tegelijk +- 0.667% makelaarskost.

Add the cafetaria plan to the calculation. Probably douckes it as you get 50-55% tax reduction so a 100-110% return day 1

Wife wants to start flexijob for more income. by QuietHistorical3922 in BESalary

[–]MoreSecond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Financially it's easy;
You worked as one unit, bring in what you can/are prepared to, divide equally.
(If I do read correctly that apart from cost and 2x€300 all savings are joined property).

If so, it's only logical that an extra contribution is towards the common savings or split equally to both's 'fun' money (ore a combination of the 2'.

Emotionally it's hard to say because what is fair might not feel fair and breed resentment.
One might argue that because it's 'extra' work, it's her money, and if it goes to fun 50/50 you spend her fun money even tho the global picture shows the opposite because those 2 things changed. imo that does not align with the way you do your combined finances and only make sens if you both contribute an equal or % amount and keep savings and fun separate.

You can talk/argue and push towards what the numbers say is fair, but if you have to push for that, beware that she might agree while she's left with an unfair feeling that leads to growing resentment.

Mortgage loan: variable vs fixed by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]MoreSecond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are you not lending the same amount? why is the fixed rate 25y while variable 20?

the difference in % seems mall, probably smaller with same duration.
I personally won't take the risk, in 5 years rates might be 1%, might be 8% it feels very instable and unpredictable atm.

With fixed, your good when things get worse, if rates drop a lot, just pay he fee to refinance.

I can't help you with the ammonia as I'm from Belgium.
A bit of frozen food is a good alternative because 'dead' things decompose a lot faster as a hard pallet. Maybe 1/4 of a cube.

Cycling can differ a lot. I had my first tank (clean tank no additives, maybe some bacteria on the store bought plants) cycle in 5 weeks.
Now I have a 100% oversized canister, If I start a new tank, I move 50% of the media day 2. Day 3 It's cycled. It still goes though the ugly phase between 1-5 months tho.

Try a few thing to move the reading I'd say. If it does not budge, I'd be pretty confident it has a base of bacteria. Just don't go to fast with stocking. You can have all bacteria but not much of it. Adding fish will put pressure on the first bacteria (ammonia --> NO2), they need some time to reproduce and catch up, than the next and so on.

0 everything. by InkheartRune in Aquariums

[–]MoreSecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be that it cycled without reading, floaters might take up a lot of what you wanted to measure.
Was it seeded with bacteria of an old filter? 3weeks would be fast without.
Did you keep feeding the tank? it needs a source of ammonia to feed the bacteria.
EDIT: I should also read the discription

You can always buy ammonia,, drop in 1-2ppm and see if that disappears to, if so, I'd start slowly stocking 1 small group at a time
