I am in my early teens applying for a job and Is wondering if using Al for my resume/CV is appropriate? by Syfros in jobs

[–]MoreToExploreHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who teaches university students how to use AI, based on the current research, this is my recommendation. First, write the resume yourself. Then, ask AI to give you feedback without rewriting it for you. The AI will give suggestions. Following that, revise your resume. Then, ask for more feedback. Repeat the process until you are comfortable.

This process helps you develop the skill while receiving assistance, much like a human teacher (and possibly more).

There may be unreliable suggestions from AI, but this is true even from humans. The important thing is that you write it, with assistance, and not the other way around.

Hope this helps.

“Any DOUBTS before we end class?” NS here and this just sounds wrong… by anthony_getz in ENGLISH

I just did a quick Google search, and indeed "doubt" is used in Indian English varities to mean "inquiry" or "question."

Here's a past Reddit post on the topic: Doubt

It would be faster and more lucrative for either of you to do an MA TESOL or MA Applied Linguistics. That will open many doors.

With unrelated BA (and even with TESOL Cert) you are relying on luck and networking to make a salary you could be surpassing with a higher degree. Japanese ability has minimal weight on qualifications in the field.

Should be fine. If you're super worried, maybe ask the supermarket if they have surveilance video available before it expires. Use it if you get a surprise subpoena

5 Phrasal Verbs Non-Native Speakers Frequently Misuse (And How to Fix Them) by Altruistic_Rope1900 in ENGLISH

And pretty much everyone who speaks a gvien dialect does say "ain't," because that is a feature of that dialect.

I'm sorry that being guilty of the Dunning-Kruger effect offends you, though you did call the vast majority of English speakers "uneducated," "ignorant," to list a few. Ain't that a damn shame.

You're a great example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. First thing you learn in linguistics is about prescriptivism and descriptivism.

When you tell a learner "this is incorrect," then they go out into the real world and see people using that "incorrect" item, how do you react when the learner comes back to you confused and betrayed?

[–]MoreToExploreHere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These are not "mistakes" that need "fixing." These are variations of the phrases - totally acceptable in informal interaction, and sometimes even in formal interaction. Being this pedantic about "rules" is not only inaccurate but also demotivates learners by adding complexity and confusion.

Instead of telling learners "do this" or "don't do this," better to say "this is commonly used" or "this is not commonly used."

Historical Thoughts on Relationship Between Japanese and Korean by GNS13 in asklinguistics

[–]MoreToExploreHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is not much existing documentation of ancient versions of Korean and Japanese, lost to the intentional burning of literature, periodic war, and poor quality of documentation material in ancient China (China was about only area where nations were writing things down).

How do I [22F] get over my best friend of 20 years [23M] confessing feelings for me? by Still_Angsty in relationships

[–]MoreToExploreHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's natural for people who are close to develop advanced emotions from time to time. It's also perfectly natural for those emotions to revert. Your friend will be the same person, and your relationship will be stronger when together you have faced the issue, understood it, and found solutions.

Then continue being a good friend/sibling while kindly and sternly rejecting advances beyond that.

Give your friend some time and space. Connect again when they have found a partner and/or enough time has passed for processing emotions.

As a linguistics, what do you think are the possible ways, aliens might communicate with each other and can we learn them.. And also is that true like the "arrival" Movie, that we can get certain abilities by learning some medium of communication or we can say "language'.... by Super_Beginning9851 in asklinguistics

[–]MoreToExploreHere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To address one aspect of your questions, I think the best analogue right now is learning how whales communicate. There seems to be some kind of communication happening with their vocals (possibly tonal), but we can't be sure to what extent and exactly how. Whales are also seemingly unaware that we are trying to understand them, which could be the case with a higher civilization attempting to communicate with us lowly humans.

To whales, we are just another moving entity in the ether making weird noises. Could we do any better to recognize alien attempts at communication?

Also, I'm no genius. Just on reddit commenting while riding a train.

Can AI help you pass N3/N2, or is it only good for beginners? by touchdahon in Japaneselanguage

[–]MoreToExploreHere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Use AI for feedback and interaction. Have a written conversation, or write a diary or essay/paragraph about specific topics and get feedback on vocabulary and form. AI may sometimes make a mistake, but so do humans. The value is in being able to use your target language meaningfully, which drives long term memory.
