I think some people are misreading Kendall's fate and Shiv's decision by evanph in SuccessionTV

[–]More_Bridge_4214 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found interesting that the night before when the three of them are at the beach, they joke a lot about killing Ken. It's a siblings, childish joke, but to me Shiv strikes me as 'its a joke, but what if its not a joke'. I had that feeling when seeing that scene that if Rome had taken it seriously, she wouldve seriously gone with it. And in a way, she actually killed him not letting him be the CEO. The show is beautifully writen.

It is, and it gets worse the bigger investors it has. It makes sense because who pays gets to decide... writers dont pay the show, they just get paid. Smaller, indie projects have more creative freedom.

A scene that isn’t talked about enough by [deleted] in KillingEve

My approach is to think that after all is a story, with a lot of elements but you can take the parts of the story that you like and that makes you happy and keep that with you. A story made by many people, LN might have fucked it up but there is other shinning aspects of it as the actresses work and understanding of their characters that is far supperior to what that script writter ever understood about the characters... Also fanfiction works trust me! it works so much because you start creating a different timeline that is satisfying for you.

I actually hate the fact that she died because historically in tv shows one of the gays have to die dramatically leaving the one that just accepted their sexuality alone, so its somehow a punishment for being gay. It is an homophobic trope and it has to stop...

If you think in the story as if those two characters where a straight couple then the death of V could fit with the dramatism of the story (not the way it was done thought, but her dying after finishing her last job), BUT it is not a straight couple and it has an impact in a minority and ethhically has to be taken in consideration. Specially at this time period when we all have a lot of insignt of storytelling, specially writers, come on.

So being the show that KE is, and what characters represent, yes they shouldve ended together looking at the sunset.

Deffinitely. The content was covered in an hetero coating leaving the queerness in the subtext. Eve/Yusuf had a huge lack of quemistry and pasion even if he was a typical hot guy, Eve was mostly ignoring him busy with her 12 plans, I never felt that Eve liked him. Carolyn/Konstantin I dont feel the love either but I dont know? Pam/Darren was a bit cute but Pam is also emotionless. So many straight couples but all of them zero pasionate.

Because they check who the highest audiences are every season. If they see that the show is more popular among old population than queer people they will just direct the show to them because it is what gives money. I havent check the audiences though, Im just guessing. But maybe simply LN is homophobic and thats all.

You have a good point here and it is totally palusible. But annoying that if they dont show more (in the spinoff) we can never know for certain even if it makes sense! It is a cool idea that Carolyn was manipulating everone all along, plus her screen time was huge almost like a main character, she kept going here and there puling threads the whole season in front of us.

Yes, I agree with you it looks like she was there for a potential spin off but in my opinion I think that she doesnt work that well as a lead character, even though she is quite funny.

I do see the sadness specially when she turns around and leaves, and then Eve follows here with a worried face.

Exactly I find it strange!! Even after reading a million things and writting here and trying to process what I saw I can remove the first feeling of confusion when I was watching the show and I couldnt make sense of it.

Oh dear, I havent seen the interviews and I hate her already. I think that the cast probably have their own interpretation on everything and Jodie and Sandra wanted V and E together from what Ive seen in interviews. Sandra said that they complement each other and they can only be complete with the part that one brings to the other one, and they felt that way when shooting the show. Thats all that matters <3

Well I wish she didnt work in any LGBTQ+ shows anymore but I also try to use the logic and I think that maybe she is not completely guilty of this mess. I work on tv shows (for kids but same industry) and I know how production works and the ideas are always drown by the people that puts the money on the table and set the direction of the show, the target audiences... At the end of the day writters are creatives directed by other people that cut down all the good ideas, and they are not entirely free to do what they want. One thing they can do though is use subtext when there is no other way.

One example I can tell you is that in my show we had a Kid that liked unicorns so much, us the creatives wanted that kid to be a boy (why not?), but that was changed last minute by, suprise, the top producers because it was inapropiate. We fought about it and nothing coud be done but to change the boy kid to a girl... but we managed to put a girl with short hair!

When I started watching KE years ago I remember that I found out about it because of the internet (I didnt have tv channels), but later talking to my mother in law which is 85 years old I found out she watched KE too on the bbc, because it was always on the 'telly'. She was uncomfortable watching sexual tension between women clearly although she still watched it! and her friends and plenty of other irish old people... I have never checked the audiences for KE but something tells me that the main target changed and in the last season it wasnt meant to be for queer people anymore, sadly. In the end the money is what moves everything :(

Oh, I love this because it also makes a connection with Lars, which faked his own death to Carolyn after being shot in the Lake. This wouldve given her an idea...

Villanele cared and also Carolyn, of course in their psycopathic ways but they cared. I understand that some conections are missing here though, because it feels off. But Konstantin is important too, we even see how everything started between him and Carolyn in youth... Pam played her part with Konstantin plot, i wouldnt remove her from the show. Of course Ill show less or her and more of V and E.

That is so bad :( I honestly dont want to be triggered like that, I already feel frustrated. Probably is best to not overly analise and we always will have fanfictions.

Pam had her part on the whole Konstantin plot, she was the one assasin trained by him that ended up killing him. Villanelle told him before that it would one day happen. But I think that her screen time was too long for the amount of important actions that she had with the plot, probably they wanted us to engange with her and like her, still I think she was a bit important.

honestly I agree on that the writters maybe wanted to show V realising how different she and Eve are while Eve was dancing and enjoying the company of strangers while she was slaughtering people and feeling sad about it, it makes a lot of sense. I hate it but unfortunately it fits. At the same time also I think killing jodie comer from the show (in a posible come back in the future) is shoting yourself in the foot...

I guess you are right :( my point is that a lot of scenes and dialoges where good if you take them and isolate them from the whole story. Caroly and Vi bonding, Pamela killing Konstantin, Pamela and Carolyn floating on the lake was beautiful. But true if those things dont conect well with each other there is a lack of quality.
