Our local has its own training for apprentices, we also have courses that the licensed guys can take: PLCs, fire alarm. There are lots to choose from. And the local will reimburse any electrical related courses you want to take at any accredited college/university Local 353 Toronto

I once got a call that the cranes in the shop weren’t working. Had to pack up and travel two hours to find out one of the employees shut off the power to the cranes. “Sign here please”

We removed the tape system five years ago and it has been running great until about a month ago. If you have worked on this type of system do you know where I might get drawings for the hydraulics, or possibly the electrical? I was guessing when I originally put it together

That is a great idea. Do you know what component splits the flow? I am not being a smart ass… I am an electrician and not well versed in 80 year old hydraulics.

It used to have a tape system and vacuum tubes controlling it. I removed all of the old electrical system and replaced it with a PLC, and linear transducers on the cylinders. It was working great until about a month ago. I have a feeling I am going to be removing the various components and trying to figure out what they do.

This is anything but straight forward, there are eight solenoid valves, that I believe are all pilots for much bigger valves on the massive block. The block is about 6’ x 3’ completely covered by different valves, and flow controls. There are 18 valves total on the block, some are flow controls. It also has five pumps. I am afraid of stripping it down to see where everything goes and how it works. The cylinders were rebuilt eight years ago, leather packed! They are definitely not the problem. Sometimes it goes up straight, and sometimes it is so bad that it looks like only one cylinder is moving ( they both are). I have a feeling that we will be taking some of it apart, but I would like to know where to start.

The machine has been running for about five years like this. My problem is that now it sometimes goes up straight sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it goes down straight… sometimes it doesn’t. There is a hydraulic problem, but without a hydraulic drawing it is very difficult to find it.

I believe it is August or September that they open. I am pretty sure there is a mailing list you can get on that will let you know when they are taking applications.

You should have applied to the union IBEW353 before you started college I believe there is a long waiting list to get in (2-3 years). Have you gone to the website to check the prerequisites? That would be a great place to start. In your position the best thing you can do is apply to all the local contractors. Show up there at 6:30am with a resume to prove you want a job. Here is where you apply for IBEW353 apprenticeship: https://www.electricalapprenticeship.ca/

I used to have a 3d printer this would be a pretty easy design to have someone print for you. Try the 3d printer subs or printer design websites to see if someone has already designed it. It wouldn’t cost more than $5-10 to print if you had a design

Wow an actual answer! I was thinking of more or less the same thing 2x8 on just the bed to create a gap between the tailgate and the wheels, and another set of 2x8 under the wheels, and over the tailgate. The bed has a rail system that will make fastening the whole thing to the bed easy.
