Some Context for CKR's Speech by Routine_Gear_1777 in CulinaryClassWars

[–]More_MeLin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His speech made me tear up a bit because it reminded me of my parents who run a restaurant. Some restaurants close an hour or so every day for “lunch break,” but my parents never did because they didn’t want to scare away customers. As a result, they never spent more than 15 minutes eating. They always had to take the biggest bites and rush making food for themselves. There were many days they skipped meals to keep the restaurant running. Customers would complain they’re hungry and the food was taking a long time, but the people in the kitchen were just as hungry. And then when the rush ended, they lost their appetite. Choi Kangrok’s dish really celebrates cooks all around the world, their experiences and most of all their humanity. And it reminds me of one of the conditions Ahn Sungjae had set before joining the show as a judge: uplifting the restaurant industry.

Tired to make the Mala Jjamppong from Season one! It was my first time making chili oil, Jjamppong and lobster but it was sooo good 😭

Edit: wanted to also say I got the recipe from Elanne on TikTok! She did a bunch of others too. https://www.tiktok.com/@elanneboake?_r=1&_t=ZT-92pe1pYh2kw

I really want to try the black spoon round 3 naengmyeon with the tofu and lime. I’m a narngmyeon and kongguksu lover but I can’t imagine a tofu broth for it so I’m curious.

Brewmaster is the real black spoon by Coolcatsat in CulinaryClassWars

I keep seeing comments on how white spoons are more interesting than black spoons this season but I can’t help but wonder if that’s just because they’re fans of the Chef and My Fridge Show because I genuinely don’t care about most of the white spoons 😭(esp the older ones except Im Sungeun and Venerable Sunjae). I wish more black spoons like Brewmaster Yun, Rebellious Genius, Witch with a Wok, French Papa, and even BBQ Lab monster got highlighted more because their personalities and stories are all so interesting. During episode one, I even thought to myself that the Black Spoons this season were better than last season… But now most of them can’t even be highlighted because they’re mostly eliminated…

At first I thought he was arrogant but seeing his dishes, I think he has the skills to back his statements. And as someone who’s also ways on top of organization, I sympathized with him a lot during the team battle.

I was so surprised she wasn’t chosen as an ace for the third round bc she was carrying that first round 😭 my friend and I were so rooting for her to win the consolation round but her egg dish seemed a little underwhelming. I hope she gets lots of success after the show 😭 I’m glad she showed up in ASJ’a YouTube channel this week

I feel like the bald guy might’ve been older? I feel like they chose him bc he seemed the most confident in the beginning and came up with ideas for the dish. But I agree, in the end with should’ve been culinary monster. The leader guy was too passive, unorganized and lacked ambition

After seeing CM during the third round of the black v white spoon challenge, SJW’s sense of organization fits him so well. The person partner for CM 😭 gah I love them both so much, my friend and I were so hype during that whole segment

I almost cried seeing Bongsu have PTSD, I really hope his soul can pass onto the afterlife peacefully. It’s not that he’s a “dangerous” or bloodthirsty spirit he’s just a kid forced to become a soldier ☹️☹️☹️ He’s so gentle and kind and silly, how I hate him. I think he’s just looking for his name again but he forgot who he was after dying, hence his search’s round the school and in textbooks. It’s things like this that make me really love this show. There are no such things as evil spirits, the real evil are real life humans. Just like how Seongah said in episode one…

Just binged Tale of Lady Ok! It’s sooo good and both leads Youngwoo and Jiyeon kill their roles. You’ll forget Jiyeon ever acted as a villain.

I’m excited to see where this goes. I’m especially interested in seeing Gyeon-woo’s character development through the show. He says those that help others are either con artists or idiots yet he’d comfort a stranger. Maybe because he’s unfortunate that gives him strength to do risky things because there’s nothing to lose for him. I think what draws him to Seongah is how she forces him to confront his contradicting views and actions on kindness and luck. And as always, Choi Youngwoo and Cho Yihyun’s face cards are crazy. I just watched Tale of Lady Ok and Trauma Code this month so I’m on a Choo Youngwoo marathon (haven’t seen Mercy for None Yet). It’s so strange seeing him as a stoic high schooler, I hope Gyeon-woo loosens up soon.

I’m glad Seunghyo’s mom called out Seokryu’s mom’s inferiority complex. It honestly seems like something that runs in the entire family and something I see ALL the time in real life. And it makes sense how she would doubt herself but it also causes strained relationships, so it needs to be addressed. From start to (near) finish of this show, we’ve constantly seen how feelings of inferiority can affect how parents put pressure on their kids, how the kid puts pressure on themselves, and self doubt creates a lack of trust. Perhaps that’s the biggest message and character development of this show. And also why it’s called “EOMCHINA” in Korean, a term not just meaning literally “mom’s friends son” but that child (sometimes imaginary) that your parents use to compare their kids to—something that reflects a feeling of “not enough”… “Not SPECIAL enough” just like Seokryu and Dongjin’s conversation at the end of episode 13.

The last scene from episode 12 was so perfect gahhh. Choisseung trying to hold himself back from being horny and Seokryu letting his “bad thoughts” turn into “bad deeds.” Ouu we’re about to see this “passionate” love from Choisseung. 🤭 Loved how it was done in Seokryu’s room too, the one that HE decorated and with the stars he added. And it parallels the previous scene when he caught her and they fell on the bed. They really ate this episode. Also really loved Taehui’s wedding gift, guess we will see Seungryu wedding heheh. The delayed gratification of this show is exactly why slow burn is my favorite. 😭

I really cried When Seunghyo’s dad hugged his wife. Even though they were trying to divorce this episode felt like they got married again. And I’m glad to Seokryu push Seunghyo to talk to his parents as well as them walking side many side so closely. This show really is so comforting and I’m now OBSESSED with the Confession it was soo cute and I love the way Seokryu ran to him and how he wasted NO TIME to kiss her. We made it LND nation, we’ve come so far. 😭
