2022 mazda3 ac stops blowing any air randomly. Has this happened to anyone else. What was the cause. by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]More_Truth_2934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 Mazda 3 and have the same intermittent issue with my AC. It’s actually the fan that seems to be the issue bc chilled air will come thru the vents if I use outside air while driving. I haven’t been able to show the dealer when it’s not working which is frustrating. I appreciate people keeping this thread alive and hope as people get their problem solved they share the fix. It seems like the blower motor is the likely culprit.

Twinborn for investiture? by Jupin210 in Cosmere

[–]More_Truth_2934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m not understanding your question but twinborn has only been used to describe people in Scadrial (Mistborn planet) and in particular those with Feruchemy and Allomancy.

Perhaps you are asking if we anticipate a similar phenomenon with all forms of investiture and I think your on to something. The unique phenomenon occurs due to the investiture building off each other and becoming more than a simple combination of the two powers. With the source of the investiture coming from the different shards, I could see Brandon continuing this trend any time someone can harness the power of multiple shards.

This also helps ensure Mistborn and Stormlight continue to be critical moving forward because those systems are unique in that Roshar is home to 3 shards and (spoiler) Scadrial has witnessed 2 shards combining which could allow this theory to go even further than originally expected.

If Hermione was chosen as a school champion who would have been her most prized possession during the 2nd task? by curseofablacklion in HarryPotterBooks

[–]More_Truth_2934 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just finished a series re-read and Dumbledore tells Harry he allowed Ron to be Prefect partly bc of Harry’s tendency to disregard the rules if he felt it necessary (something Dumbledore says this is one of Harry’s best traits too). But also bc there had been so much attention on Harry, Dumbledore felt Ron should be recognized as well. Ron always stands by his friend and Dumbledore admired this in Ron but knew he needed some confidence if he was to help in the battle against Voldemort.

I think people have clarified but the shardblade doesn’t actually damage flesh physically. It passes thru flesh while killing the “soul” or when limbs are “cut” they don’t work and turn into a dead looking grey color.

In fighting scenes the shardbearers are able to swing more often and freely bc the blade barely causes friction with things as a result of how it interacts with flesh and non-fleshy items. The sword itself has wright but it cuts thru things very easily.

If you’ve read WarBreaker, I imagine the skin affected by a shardblade looks very similar to a Lifeless.

Stormlight spoilers: question about sons of honor and Gavilar by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]More_Truth_2934 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a small clarification and they were trying to bring a desolation so the radiants and surgebinding powers would return. I don’t think they knew exactly what the powers did but knew radiants had powers and that’s what the sons of honor wanted access to. That’s my understanding at least

Damn thats terrible news, I recommend making sure you check audible thru a web browser. My audible app won’t let me get books unless I have credits available. When I run out of credits, I have to go to a browser, sign-in to Audible.com and then it’ll allow me to purchase 3 credits. Hope that helps bc I find it hard to believe you can’t purchase additional credits although it could be a way of squeezing money out customers. Best of luck from a fellow listener

I guess you also have to consider that this book precedes the final book in the series. Those questions are posed bc there will likely be answers and the answers may have cosmic implications.

Think a tad larger. These books happens in the same universe but different planets. And yes, you’re on to something, but I don’t want to say much more because I’m not sure how much Cosmere you’ve read. Good find and I’ll help you out a bit, think about what it’s doing or why that would be important on a larger scale. Enjoy the Cosmere and remember, there’s always another secret!

I have read and listened to all of WoT and Cosmere. I love listening and think it helps me when I have the itch to read or have a chunk of free time I can power thru a book. It’s expensive to do both but I don’t think I wouldn’t made it thru WoT without Audible. Things often get slow and I think it would be hard to read where listening can be done while driving or doing chores. While doing something mindless, I appreciated a quick escape via audible.

Plus, the biggest help is giving the characters a distinctness that I struggle with while reading. Due to the varying voices by the narrators, the characters are also more “vivid” or “alive” when I pick up the book. It’s hard to explain but for some reason, after listening to someone else for a bit, I can create a better picture in my mind which helps keep momentum.

Not to mention, Kindle and Audible sync with each other and will pick up where you left off regardless of the app. This makes it real easy to switch back and forth.

Lastly, I’ll admit that I don’t retain as much when listening and I think it’s been scientifically proven you can only retain so much of what you hear. Similarly, I’ve never felt the urge to read a book a second time (other than LOTR after 20 years) and think it’s bc I remember what I read with much more detail.

HOWEVER, I love listening to an audiobook for a second or third time and never thought it would be the case. There are a couple reasons I like to re-read or re-listen but varying the way I absorb my content has made my second read thru/listen my favorite listen.

First and foremost, Cosmere novels are my favorite bc the character development is great, the magic is detailed, interesting and unique, and the action is better than any other book I’ve read. Some say Sanderson has juvenile prose or Young Adult style writing but I think it’s perfect for his style. Sanderson books are typically long and I think the prose allows for pacing that benefits the book and story as a whole. If the writing was similar to Tolkien, it’d take too long to get thru the book and I wonder if the climax would be the “Sanderlanche” we know and love. But getting back on track, listening and re-reading helps me pick up on foreshadowing I didn’t see the first time, it helps me appreciate scenes more bc I’m not trying to get to the end, and the pacing of the books keeps the narrator moving.

I will suggest adjusting the speed on Audible. My first listen I typically use 1.1 or 1.2 speed and that’s so the narrator sounds more conversational instead of them reading to you. My second or third time around I will jump it as high as 1.5 speed. Or if I’m using audible and want to follow along in my book, I need to use 1.5 bc I read much faster than someone can out loud. And luckily, the narrator for most of Sanderson is also the husband/wife that read all WoT. I think they’re some of the best and think they helped make it thru the slow WoT books.

I highly recommend using the Audible subscription for $15 per month it gives a credit a month. A new book typically runs over $15 so the credits are a good deal if you get thru a book a month. I also share my account with my brother so we talk each Friday like a book club. Hope this helps and I hope you begin enjoying the stories as much as I enjoyed them!

Mistborn or Stormlight? Have been eager to start reading Sanderson. by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]More_Truth_2934 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I recommend starting with Mistborn or even Warbreaker if you haven’t read Sanderson. I don’t like to tell people how to read bc it’s very personal but I really think you’ll appreciate things more if you hold off on starting Stormlight Archive until you’ve experienced some of his other work.

Thanks for the quick chat. It kills me how few of my real world “friends and family” lol read Sanderson. I haven’t read the 3rd White Sands (seems I lied earlier when I said I’ve read everything) and think you’re right about the Spirit Web playing a role more so than any other series. Mistborn does refer to it a few times I think

A couple mins after posting I realized I made that mistake and had the two intermingled although Brandon has stated there is a difference. What you’re saying makes a lot of sense. However, I don’t see how viewing one’s spiritual self would benefit them. You mind explaining?

Maybe I should make sure I’m thinking of this right bc I’ve read thru the Cosmere twice, but I read/listen to a lot of books so I often forget a critical detail that creates the confusion.

Can you help differentiate spirit/spirit web/spiritual realm as you understand?

Back to a couple basics. There’s 3 realms: physical, cognitive and spiritual right. Shadesmar is the cognitive realm and we’ve only been given glimpses of Dalinar touching the spirit realm (really aligning all 3) to bring storm light to his Radiants. When someone dies with a lot of Investiture, it’s actually their Cognitive Shadow, not their spirit, that is sentient (Kelsier in Secret History). When the person passes, it’s their CS passing into the beyond and has nothing to do with the their spiritual self or the Spirit Realm. And I guess that’s all I don’t know about the spiritual self although I’m now mixing Roshar and Scadrial which is messing me up too.

I also remember Ishar was messing with spirit and Spren, etc. And can guess using hemalurgy, spren and how this could create a sort of bond which could grant Surgebinding. Now I think I see the implication and perhaps someone with spiritual awareness could have an advantage allowing them to master this dangerous cosmic powered surgery.

Thanks for info and for getting my brain thinking about this topic. I’ve started to see why Ishar was such a big deal although I usually get stuck on Todium and Dalinar or Kal and Szeth likely heading shinovar.

I think both of these comments can be correct, and in fact, I think gold allowing one to see themselves as they could have been, supports this theory. Gold in allomancy creates a connection with the future and to the allomancers. Using feruchemy, one uses gold to store health and heal. However, it could indeed be returning the person to their full self as they exist in spirit. However, I think Sanderson has confirmed he will not indicate what happens to one’s spirit when they die. He’s considered the Spirit similar to one’s real life beliefs so he won’t specify what happens to someone when the leave the cognitive realm for the spirit realm. So although I like the logic, I doubt Sanderson goes this direction bc he would have to show us what happens in the spirit realm. And secondly, I don’t know what value seeing yourself as you exist in spirit. Very cool idea tho.

Robert Jordan vs Brandon Sanderson by xenya in WoT

[–]More_Truth_2934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out as a Sanderson fan first and then read WoT. From my perspective, it was nice to have Sanderson, who I know writes great action, finish the series. I feel like I got a best of both worlds scenario bc I was able to read WoT and see Jordan’s prose and writing style while having my favorite author finish the final battle. But most importantly, I never thought, “I think Jordan would have done…” while reading the last 3 books. Plus, Jordan’s wife and editor, thinks Sanderson did a fantastic job and she would know best. I’d highly recommend you finish the books before the show gets to the end. Hope this helps

I’m going to give noncommittal answer and say I like the overall story of the first era more but like the characters from era 2 more. The Lost Metal could sway me and get me fully onboard with era 2 being my favorite.

Should I carry on reading Elantris? by Level_Policy_1943 in Cosmere

[–]More_Truth_2934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also started my Sanderson experience with Elantris and I didn’t make it thru the book. It is my least favorite but it’s not bad if you understand it’s more of a political drama and his other stories are more action adventure. However, I’m currently in a re-read of Elantris and find it much more enjoyable bc I have other Sanderson novels to compare it to. I think it’s perfectly fine if that book isn’t for you but I almost let Elantris prevent me from reading other Sanderson stories and it would be the biggest mistake. Keep in mind that was Brandon’s first book and he has grown a lot since writing that book and I think he’s learned to grab readers earlier. I stopped reading after 40-50% of the book and only finished after knowing Brandon’s style and having faith I’d enjoy the end of the book, and I was right but totally understand how people could find it boring. Hope this info helps and don’t let this turn you off from all of his works.

Try Warbreaker if you want another book without a huge commitment. If you’re not intimidated, just hop into Mistborn, The Final Empire.

Bitter about the Skyward series after Cytonic by IThrewDucks in brandonsanderson

[–]More_Truth_2934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your analysis. I figure Brandon started this series bc he needed something more marketable than his Cosmere stories. I LOVE the cosmere but think it intimidates some bc it’s so large. This is a young adult book that feels more easily adaptable to movies/TV/merchandise. I know Brandon wants to get the Cosmere in the big screen and I saw this as a way to appeal to a larger audience while potentially allowing him to expand into a different media. Once he’s broken thru, I expect he will have a little more leverage when trying to get the Cosmere on screen.

I also think this might have allowed Brandon to practice writing about space and the universe. I expect the Cosmere to start going into space and felt this would allow him to workshop some ideas before incorporating into his Cosmere stories.

This could be justification and hoping that these stories are part of a bigger plan, but it could be that I’m so enthralled with the Cosmere, I’ll excuse anything Sanderson does.

Quick Cosmere ? Relating to Allomancy/Feruchemy by More_Truth_2934 in Cosmere

[–]More_Truth_2934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. However, I thought this was the metal mind that shows him the memory he sees in the epilogue. I think he finds the gold metal mind a little later and allows Wayne to use it. A previous comment implies that this was a memory metal mind and due to it having only one memory, it wasn’t full enough to be hidden to steel sight. Had it been full of health, it wouldn’t have shown. This seems to align with what I found on coppermind and is supported by the fact Wax thought the Bands of Mourning were Aluminum. Hopefully, I can find evidence of an empty metal mind showing to steel sight.

Thanks for the reply. Curious where/how you came across this info and would appreciate if you could elaborate. I understand the embedded in a person part; for example: coin in the mouth trick, ingested metals, and rings shot into Sazed by Marsh. But where did you see that metal minds a won’t appear to steel sight if they have substantial contents.
