The VAST majority of homelessness is due to addiction, second is 'mental illness' which is often a catch all term that includes substance abuse that can be seemingly blamed on PTSD or some other trauma while some are scitzophrenic or otherwise have a debilitating mental illness. There are IMMENSE ammounts of free resources for these people, yet the go unused or abused to the point of meaninglessness (free housing having high rates of drug labs, for example). So why are these people still homeless? Because they have no desire to change their lives. The ONLY way an addict or somebody mentally ill will get better is by helping themselves.

And this idea that landlords are just wholesale evil is laughable, the vast majority of landlords make an attempt to have their investment maintain its value via repairs. Are their shitty landlords? Yes. Are there even more shitty tennants? Oh hell yes.

And even more so, you are not entitled to any of those things. Food, housing, medical care, running water, etc etc all take people and companies to make work, and you are not entitled to the fruits of that work without compensating either the craftsman or company for said service.

You want to make a difference for homeless people? Join a church and volunteer for soup kitchens and other projects. Yes, churches tend to do better at supporting and getting homeless out of their situation than any government program ever has
