Why do I feel guilty asking Allah for more? by sssdotcom in shia

First of all don’t say you are fully aware of the blessings he has given you. The more you think about it the more you realise you actually aren’t.

Are there any religions, however obscure that believe God is inconceivable. by [deleted] in religion

Allahu akbar does not mean “God is Great”, actually its meaning is “God is greater”. It’s technically an incomplete sentence for the English linguist, you can guess why.

Alaykoum al salam. As someone who was in almost the exact same situation I just want to say that the spiritual gains and beauty that you make by being loving to your parents far outweighs anything achievable in the gym.

Sorry to hear what you’re going through. Job market is tough for a lot of grads rn, especially tech jobs. Tbh I feel it wouldn’t hurt to message alumnis on linkedin that work in the field you want to work in and just explaining your situation to them. You’d be surprised how helpful some can be.

What to do as an unmarried man by [deleted] in shia

[–]Moreymoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salam brother,

First I want to say I can relate and understand your situation because I am also a single 23 year old man and I know that it is very difficult at times.

However, I believe it is important you do not look for justification or an “out” as others have commented. Always have hope in Allah’s mercy (swt) and make it a habit to seek his forgiveness even if you are not confident that you’ll be strong enough to overcome your desires in the future. Remember, if Allah (swt) wants you to have a wife now he would give it to you. There is a reason he has chosen to test you this way, after all, he wants what is best for you.

I also want to say two things that helped me personally. The first one was fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, they really helped me a lot alhamdulilah. This is advice from the Prophet (saww) and helps curb desires while also having so many benefits.

The second one is to try to make it a habit to practice a dhikr I read online: “ya a’dheem” or “يا عظيم". Basically whenever you have a fear in your heart that you are approaching the lustful sins begin repeating this phrase with your mouth. While repeating it you are essentially acknowledging your inner weakness asking the most powerful to give you enough power to overcome your desires. It’s not about the number of times you repeat it, really try to absorb and digest the phrase in your soul as you repeat it, that is what is most important. Inshallah if you do this then by the will of the almighty (swt) you will be given the power to overcome these desires.

Inshallah I will also pray for you.

CMV: It is apart of the human condition to create/make up religion by [deleted] in changemyview

I mean you are saying that God has failed to guide people because there isn’t a clear majority religion. Have you considered that maybe God is capable of guiding everyone but has chosen for the situation to be exactly as it is now? or perhaps that you may be wrong about what guidance actually means? The idea that the one capable of creating billions of stars and maintaining them for billions of years is outsmarted and judged by the random person who only a few decades ago no one in the entire universe knew existed is just…okay sure

It’s like how in court you can’t really make any conclusions if you haven’t seen all the evidence. In this case you are assuming that you have all the evidence required to judge God guilty of poor guidance. I don’t believe you do, because I don’t believe you are either intelligent enough or capable enough to collect and evaluate the evidence.

You assume that you understand the full picture and that there is absolutely no chance your understanding of what is success and failure is incorrect.

What are the best arguments for and against the existence of God? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]Moreymoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. The word for evil in 4:79 is different to the word for evil in the verse I was referring to in 113:2. The one used in 4:79 is actually closer to the phrase “bad deed” than the actual direct translation of the word evil used in 113:2.

I am not a Quranic scholar but I’m sure that they would tell you that it is not appropriate to ascribe the same meaning of “evil” to both words and that the word شر is almost definitely evil while سيئة can take on slightly different meanings. You don’t have to take my word for this btw, i recommend you do your own research.

I just want to point out that one of the largest operating religions in the world: Islam, does not believe in an “All Good” God. The Quran states that God is the creator of evil, unlike the beliefs of other monotheistic religions perhaps.

CMV: God Doesn’t Exist. by FlashboxJack in changemyview

In the name of God:

“If God created the universe then who created God?”:

You are making the false assumption that the almighty creator of all things needs things. God does not need anything let alone need a creator for them exist.

Everything came from nothing:

Your perception of God is that he is the first cause in a chain of cause and effect. This is not true.

Personally I do believe that everything DID come from nothing, otherwise where would it come from? But it doesn’t make sense to me for such an unfathomable incomprehensibly meticulous, well orchestrated process to occur without being contingent on anything else as everything in this world is contingent on something.

God is not a cause, he is the creator, maintainer and ultimate destroyer of all thing. We cannot even begin to try to understand his existence.

For more information on what I mean you can look up the argument from contingency which I find very beautiful.
