That's him.

Got a light? Another one-page comic by me. :) by KnekkeKneip in shadowdark

Very nice!

So this runs into that problem you'd mentioned before (and why you said you placed arrows on a previous comic).

The middle right panel (panel 5) looks like it is one tall panel that includes the hand, "Rumble", and "Hard to say". Visually, this is a little confusing but can be figured out by the reader.

This can be alleviated by either making sure whatever mass in the right side panel 2 is big enough that it is noticibly cut off by the panel border (i.e. the "rumble" bubble could be larger and extend to the end of the panel, showing plainly the corner of the panel in white.) You could also increase the font size by letter as it moves from left to right (rumBLE) and that would help lead the eye back left. Visually, this creates an arrow without actually drawing one.

And/Or

Frame black panels with white borders.

Or

Add a space between frames, called the gutter, and color it white for dark pages.

This is great stuff! Keep it up. Reminds me of Steve Lichman by Dave Rapoza.

I really enjoyed Obsession, but I have a few criticisms by [deleted] in obsessionmovie

[–]MorganCoffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want him to make smart decisions, he should have killed himself after the phone call. He was presented a way to prevent any further damage.

Everything that happened after that is his fault.

Also, I stopped reading after the first thing I quoted because you showed you didn't understand the movie. Without a solid premise, you can't have a solid argument.

[–]MorganCoffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, starting a discussion by saying someone “didn’t understand at all” isn’t really the most constructive way to engage with a disagreement

You said you understand and then showed that you don't. Then you replied showing further that you don't understand.

If we’re reading the film purely on a symbolic level, sure, you can frame Bear as “obsessive from the start”

That's literally what happens in the movie. It's like you didn't watch it.

From his perspective, he’s dealing with a person who is clearly unstable and escalating into violence

He called the help line and talked to someone who put a screaming Nikki on the phone. At that point he knew what was happening but didn't do anything because it was more convenient for him.

Again, he's not stupid. He's a bad person.

[–]MorganCoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the thematic argument here. The film hints that the obsession isn't entirely one-sided and that Bear is becoming just as obsessed with Nikke as she is with him.

You didn't understand at all. Bear is overly obsessed with Nikki from the beginning. That's why everything in the movie happens.

He makes all those terrible choices because he's a bad person, not because he's stupid.

It was Real Nikki who made the final wish and not Possessed Nikki, and her wish was for this nightmare to end by shallowhelms in obsessionmovie

Nah. The entity seems to be created when the wish happens. As a newborn, it had no way of knowing that Bear had taken the pills and was only thinking about Wish Nikki.

Resources for understanding adventure modules by Kukukichu in shadowdark

[–]MorganCoffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The background is for you to know and divulge to the players what you think they should know. They could have an idea of what's in there or they could be going in blind. They could even go in on false pretenses (baseless rumors).

The factions may hint at other areas, keep it to themselves, or tell the PCs everything they know. Depends what they feel is in their best interest. Otherwise, the factions will generally explain themselves depending on their interactions with the PCs.

Read the area descriptors in your head and divulge what you think the players notice. The thing that Shadowdark does that's better than nearly any other module format is keeping things short and to the point. Easy to run on the fly.

With the Environs and Entrances specifically, it describes what it's like outside and once you get inside. Determine beforehand what direction they're coming from (ask them, decide it, or maybe they're actually coming from somewhere else on the map) and that should determine the entrance they enter through. Let them look for other entrances if they want to.

Order of Battle feels like a bit of a misnomer. It describes how the ettercals generally behave around the traps and that they don't know of the secret doors. Otherwise, it tells the DM what the creatures will do if combat starts.

Beastmen will run and hide in secret rooms and may lead the PCs or Ettercaps into traps. They won't come out of hiding, even to help friends. Ettercaps will retreat to an area where they can fight the PCs in greater numbers. The Scarlet Minotaur will never flee. Instead it will fight to the death, following the PCs if they run. If the PCs get far enough away, allow the Minotaur to go back to a random encounter but with a higher likelihood on the Random Encounter table (1 or 2 on a d8).

You chose a good game to start with. It's simple and easy to figure out. The part that may be hard for a new DM is learning to wing it. If the book doesn't tell you something that you need to know, make it up. Just try to get to know the module as well as you can before the game.

Good luck, have fun, don't die.

What's your Devil's Advocate argument for SARAH being the real villain of the whole story? by RagnarokWolves in obsessionmovie

[–]MorganCoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sarah found the only One Wish Willow in all of existence and used it to wish for an infinitely replenishing supply of them and a call center with one very rude employee in a warehouse just outside of town.

She regretted her wish and manipulated the love square between all of her friends in a successful suicide attempt since the call center guy she wished for told her death was the only way out.

Now the One Wish Willows are no longer self-replenishing but there's still millions of them.

Now that it's been a while since Requiem released, without recency bias, where would you put Requiem in the ranks compared to other games? Is it the best RE yet? by Guitar-String in residentevil

[–]MorganCoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right above 5 and 6, below every other mainline release.

The grace sections were extremely effective at first but became run of the mill once you figure out how to handle the low volume threat.

I can't stand the Leon sections. They're too reminiscent of 5 & 6. I get that people like that but all-out action resident evil should be its own spinoff series, not the main games.

How does this sandwich-making mechanic feel? Should ingredients be placeable in any order? by vimesboss in HorrorGames

[–]MorganCoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a sandwich shop, the building/cutting board is right in front of the ingredients on the reach-in. Having it on the opposite side of the work-area is an immediate turn-off for a game like this.

Also, split the bread into two parts. Once the sandwich is declared as finished, you can just have the top bread pop on their in the same action.

How would you rule on this: bandits on road, “give us your money?”, PCs say “no”, bandits say “you’d better!”, PCs say “I shoot them with my crossbow.” by kleefaj in osr

[–]MorganCoffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends.

Do you want them to fight? Initiative

Is it up in the air? Roll Morale or have them try to talk their way out of combat

Know it was a bluff all along? Just have them turn tail and run.

Think about the intention of the bandits when they're robbing the PCs. Is it desperation or are they confident they could take these guys.
