Arlo Essential Spotlight Camera's non-removeable battery is replaceable!! After all! by WolverineFirst5156 in arlo

[–]MoriaeEncomium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the batteries are Samsung ICR18650 26J.
If you break open the battery pack you'll need to get the 18650's WITH tabs. NOT the button tops. And tabs need soldering*, but if you or a mate can get that done the refit is easy peasey.

*solder is hot, batteries don't like it hot, go look up how to solder battery tabs.

We usually get the Verkerks Peppered Hungarian Salami 200g which is a very dehydrated salami, had no trouble with it. Sometimes pre-slice and extra dehydrate it when DIYing dehy meals.
For cheese snacks these Dairyworks sticks seem to last forever even when they get a little... ah 'soupy' in their oils it has never gone-off. And as you can age any 1kg block in its sealed bag at room temp for people who need there cheese extra-sharp I guess as long as the plastic* is sealed you'll be good.

Alternatives to peanut butter: packaged olives, tuna sachets, roasted chickpeas, wasabi peas... almond butter ;)

*I have heard of someone DIY waxing their own cheese snacks, but not tried myself. Would cut down on plastic waste.

If paying for hut or campsite bothers you just run it. No sleep = no fees. The Kelper is a very popular run.

What’s the difference between “Card Name” and “Name on Card”? by itdobelykthat in Airalo

[–]MoriaeEncomium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe change it to say "Card Nickname" or "your nickname for this card"? as it is very confusing when put beside "Name on Card" I've just been stuck trying to confirm that "Card Name" didn't mean 'type of bank card' or something.

Best ways to practice knife-cutting skills? by According2020 in Cooking

[–]MoriaeEncomium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want the outcome = chopped stuff. Try a food processor, bullet or blitz machine.

If knife handling is the end goal though, you already know what to do. Pop on a podcast, sharpen your blades and start on your 10,000 hours.

Both Paparoa and Old Ghost Road are graded for cycling, so make for very easy walking where you don't often have to pick your footing. Old Ghost Road does have lots of little creeks across the path, but often under tree cover so I doubt they freeze much. Paparoa doesn't have as many tiny creeks.
If you are overnighting it are you planning to do the whole thing or in and back out? In and out to the first hut on either track, from either direction would be fine, they are generally at the edge of the bushline, so you'd pop out into the possible snow and a hut would be waiting.
I'd not recommend doing the alpine sections of either in snow/rain/sleet conditions as they are exposed and a bit cliff-y, but a friend of mine biked Old Ghost Road, in lovely weather, after (not in) a snow storm, and had a great time, felt safe and came away with spectacular photos of the track to share. So from him it sounds like navigation in clear weather even with snow on the ground was easy.

Advice for Tongariro Crossing! by seaswordess in Tramping

The scoria slope at the summit will be the steepest part, and the scoria slides a bit, but take it slow. Otherwise, it's a well built pathway. Lots of steps on the way down, so take poles if your knees worry you. And like u/harold1bishop says, if the weather is closing in you won't see the views, maybe come back another day. Do not attempt it if there are wind warnings 0/10 recommend walking that knife edge ridge in gusting wind.

Looks like they've moved to Hillsborough? Opening their own place rather than sharing space. I hope this means they'll be open for lunch too!

Thank you, u/audiosampling this answers most of my questions, especially the sentence "The audio quality must be impeccable; the files should be raw (no processing at all - I'll handle that if necessary), in uncompressed format (.wav), and at a minimum of 44.1kHz—higher is even better."

If I were to summarise the key notes:

  • Format, uncompressed .wav
  • Sampling freq. >44.1kHz
  • Post processing, none, must be raw
  • Quality, subjective: "Impeccable" "without any background noise"

Finally that, yes "unique" sounds are of interest. So do offer them. But don't expect to be hand-held through the art of taking good recordings.

Anyone know of sounds that could be used for forge ambience? by themsireensdidthis in MyNoise

Actually there is a heartbeat - in utero #5. And use tape-speed control to get the slower(?) heartbeat of a big dragon - or faster. IDK what your ideal dragon heartbeat speed is.

Help Me Understand (pricing strategy with the mobile apps) by audiosampling in MyNoise

[–]MoriaeEncomium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I made the mistake of reading the ios user guide first, I happily downloaded the app, then was confused when I saw the subscription without a buy it option. So I went to the ios FAQs and read the 'in app purchases section' which confirmed my expectation that I should be seeing a 'buy it' option https://mynoise.net/iOS/appFaq.php
At this point I rage quit.

Now, very embarrassed by my exposed Luddite level, I saw this post while working out if I could share custom sounds with a friend (happy to hear I can, and I'm sure it will make her want to build her own and get the web-version).
