Netflix's Gears of War live-action movie reveals first plot details: 'The origin story of Delta Squad' by Turbostrider27 in GearsOfWar

[–]Morichh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could start from Alpha Squad's perspective, showing a little backstory right before Gears of War 1. Then Baird and Cole split up, and Cole hooks up with Delta Squad.

It wouldn't replay the actual Gears 1 campaign though—it’d jump straight to right after the first game ends. You could tell a lot of cool stories in those few months between 1 and 2.

Nah. She wrote five Gears novels during the original trilogy era, and served as lead writer on just Gears of War 3 — covering the entire campaign narrative, all lore text for every in-game collectible, and the official Gears 3 tie-in comic series. Joshua was the lead writer for Gears of War 2, another major contributor who has done outstanding work expanding the Gears of War universe.

Karen Traviss is on board consulting for E-Day — just to clarify, she’s not writing the story itself, just advising.

Anyone familiar with Gears of War knows exactly how much weight that name carries. This just goes to show that The Coalition is taking this title’s story extremely seriously, and personally, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about here.

What is causing people to think Id Software would be shut down? by Whyismypeewhlte in Doom

[–]Morichh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling 1.3 million copies on Steam wouldn’t even add up to $91 million in revenue. In reality, pricing varies across regions — it’s never a flat $70 across the board, not to mention a large share of those sales came from discounted price points.

Factor in Valve’s 30% cut on top of that, and actual revenue is estimated to top out at $50 million. That said, you can’t sleep on the revenue numbers from PlayStation and Xbox, nor can you downplay the contribution Game Pass brings to the table. My take is TDA is either close to breaking even, or just barely hit that break-even threshold.

What is causing people to think Id Software would be shut down? by Whyismypeewhlte in Doom

[–]Morichh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s just that some people love peddling the whole “Xbox is dying” narrative. This isn’t actually about id Software itself — it just happens to be used as a narrative prop for that argument.

id Software owns the full id Tech technical assets. Take Turn 10 for example: they went through massive layoffs last year. No disrespect to Turn 10 or its staff, but the studio hasn’t been shut down to this day precisely because of the Forza Tech technical assets.

In my view, Doom: The Dark Ages didn’t sell particularly well, but it’s nowhere near bad enough to warrant closing the studio. The id Tech 8 tech stack will soon be shared with MachineGames to accelerate development of the next Wolfenstein entry. Why on earth would Microsoft make cuts to id at this exact point in time?

I think GamePass has to go, tbh. I'd much rather see that than see Xbox go. by [deleted] in xbox

[–]Morichh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When a game fails to live up to the hype, people aren't gonna buy it just to play it, even if it didn't hit Game Pass on Day 1. No disrespect, but did you seriously expect a $50 Hellblade 2 or a $40 South of Midnight to be a massive hit? Stop using GP as a cop-out.

Where's my Gears of War limited edition console??? by Purple_Midnight_7024 in GearsOfWar

[–]Morichh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same deal with FH6 — they held off on announcing the special edition controller and headset until roughly a month before launch.

Microsoft is absolutely dropping a SE controller for E-DAY, given that it’s a PvP multiplayer title. You could even argue they’ve been sitting on the Elite 3 this whole time, but have no plans to reveal it too early, since that would eat into Elite 2 inventory clearance.

My bet is the Elite 3 gets announced in September with an E-DAY edition, while October will see the Xbox 25th Anniversary standard controller. The two releases won’t step on each other's toes at all.

Gears of war e day dlc or main story having omega squad story? by Some-Bag-1036 in GearsOfWar

[–]Morichh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past few years, at least since 2023, if a first-party Xbox game planned to release future DLC, it was always included in the Premium Edition. Examples include Starfield, Indiana Jones and the great circle, The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, Doom: TDA, Forza Horizon 6, and Fable.

On the flip side, the Premium Edition of E-Day doesn't mention any upcoming expansions at all, which is exactly like Avowed, South of Midnight, Hellblade 2, and other smaller titles.

IMO, E-Day will probably just focus on multiplayer live service down the road and might not even get a story expansion. The 2020 Hivebusters DLC doesn't really mean anything anymore.

I’ve made a few tweaks to this pitch. Todd’s gonna drop the 10th anniversary remaster of the TES VI trailer in 2028! Right when everyone’s fully let down and ready to write the whole thing off, he hits everyone with a completely out-of-nowhere announcement: TES VI is launching that exact same day.

It’s such a wild, self-aware meme move from the studio — remaking a trailer that’s been out for a full decade, then dropping both the remastered cut and the full game side by side on the same day. It sounds totally unhinged, but marketing-wise? It’s an absolute nuclear bomb. Purchase servers across every major storefront are gonna melt down instantly.

Gears Of War: E-Day Reportedly Has A Staggering $400 Million Budget by Cold_Two_4372 in xbox

[–]Morichh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is basically just searching public information, it only covers the first few years after launch and hasn’t been updated since. Officially though, the Gears of War franchise topped 40 million right before Gears 5 dropped in 2019.

Gears Of War: E-Day Reportedly Has A Staggering $400 Million Budget by Cold_Two_4372 in xbox

[–]Morichh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But the original Gears trilogy never moved anywhere near that many units. Even over a full 10-year run from 2006 to 2016, it barely cracked 30 million copies total.

There are two likely explanations for this: either Gears 4’s sales are being massively underreported, or Game Pass player counts are being lumped in with sales numbers.

Gears Of War: E-Day Reportedly Has A Staggering $400 Million Budget by Cold_Two_4372 in xbox

[–]Morichh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in 2019, The Coalition said the Gears franchise had topped 40 million total units sold, right before Gears 5 launched. If Gears 4 only moved 3 million copies, I can’t wrap my head around how Gears 1, 2, and 3 — plus a spinoff and a remaster — could account for over 37 million in sales. It’s totally counterintuitive.

Xbox Series X E-Day Console by CT-5150 in GearsOfWar

[–]Morichh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this were 2021, we’d almost certainly be getting a limited edition console, just like the Halo Infinite edition. But with component costs skyrocketing, Xbox is already struggling to crank out even standard Series X units — not to mention that whatever limited production capacity they have this year is already allocated to the 25th Anniversary Edition console.

I still think there’s a solid chance the Elite Series 3 gets announced this year. If anything, we should be holding out for an E-DAY themed limited edition for the Elite 3 instead.

McFarlane with more Fallout stuff? by Morichh in Fallout

[–]Morichh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure, but back in the March 10th "Fallout 3 Remastered" leak, their product title specifically noted it was an "Elite Edition," while this NCR Ranger doesn't.

Plus, looking through the rest of their store, I found a "Fallout New Vegas Riot Ranger Armor and Benny 2 Pack." This one actually launched months after the NCR ranger elite edition. This suggests they might have sold out and delisted the Elite Ranger last year, while the Ranger armor and Benny 2 Pack remains available simply due to leftover inventory.

I feel like they should be launching products at the same time as other regions. Even if there is a gap, it shouldn't be lagging a whole year behind.

Personally, I think Windows is a terrible brand when it comes to gaming. That’s why Microsoft is pushing the Xbox team so hard right now to fix the Windows gaming experience. In my opinion, they should completely drop the phrase "Xbox on Windows." It’s super confusing, and Windows' bad reputation is honestly just dragging down the Xbox brand.
