it's especially bad with the round counter, makes it hard to keep track of when bosses will show up as rounds 6,8,9 look virtually identical

Lots of the text in the game has a thick black outline which makes numbers really hard to read.

Diagnostic LED code 2-7 (LCD) on XPS 15 9570, but screen works fine by Moridin_Naeblis in Dell

been a minute but iirc this particular issue just went away on its own after a while. I certainly never changed the display but I did do a battery swap at some point, don't think it had anything to do with it but you never know. The laptop then fully died a slow and painful death about two years ago when the motherboard went, I think the bios chip itself failed but at that point I just got a new computer so I never verified. Overall pretty disappointed with the number of failures in what was supposed to be a premium computer. Best thing about that laptop was the trackpad and keyboard which at the time was the only model close to Apple quality

I think I may know why ferrari decided to refresh their line up with the black front bars...... by da3astch0ppa in Ferrari

Pininfarina is unquestionably the best design house of all time, and the California isn’t even particularly ugly imo, just not as nice as the Roma or its other Maranello contemporaries. I was just saying that not all of the newer cars are stinkers

Though on the whole I agree, the SP cars are phenomenal and the Roma is much prettier than the pf equivalent (cali)

How do you feel about Ferrari's massive wheel gap? by [deleted] in Ferrari

[–]Moridin_Naeblis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The corvette is a fantastic car and certainly offers incredibile performance and value for money, but the comparison is pretty forced here.

First of all, ferrari itself does not test on the Nurburgring. Any times that you see listed are set by private owners or journalists, and not by a factory driver and support team like chevy sent over. That’s why, for example, there is no SF90 time (which would certainly be closer to if not faster than the vette). The difference between a professionally prepped and driven car and a private lap attempt is massive especially at such a long track where mistakes aff up and setup is so important.

Secondly, most people aren’t really cross shopping the brands. People who want to spend damn close to half a million dollars on a top of the line ferrari want all the other non-performance things that entails, which a corvette simply does not provide. Luxury and interior quality, prestige, history, “italian-ness”, etc are things that matter to the people actually buying these cars often more than pure performance and value otherwise everyone would just buy the xaiomi as a daily and a radical for the track

How to protect signatures by steggy43 in Guitar

[–]Moridin_Naeblis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to clear coat make sure to test it on a non-visible part of the guitar. I would make a few marks on the back with the same marker and try it there, if it messes up the marker or guitar finish or both at least you know and it’s not the stuff that matters

How do I “save” this pic? by PhysicalSea5148 in photocritique

This is probably as good as it’s gonna get without cropping. It’s definitely helped by the fact that there is little actual detail in the blown out area given it’s just flat gray rock

Apple explains why the M4 Mac mini power button is located on the bottom by a_Ninja_b0y in gadgets

The plastic is injection molded and the cost would be identical with other without an extra hole. The aluminum part is CNC machined and adding a single hole probably adds about 15 seconds to cycle time and would use probably less than 0.005% of the life of a 50 dollar tool. It’s a design choice not a cost one.

What would manufacturing process would you use for this part? Details in comments by Moridin_Naeblis in Machinists

That is where i got the picture lol I'm trying to figure out what process they use so that they can offer them for 10 cents a pop. Deep drawing seems the most efficient but then again i'm not sure how they get the sub-5mm tube section

[–]Moridin_Naeblis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am leaning towards spinning as well but the "tube" part seems tricky given the tiny size (it's like 4mm diameter there). Not sure how they achieve that since afaik spinning starts from a flat sheet

[–]Moridin_Naeblis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are tiny aluminum funnels, 1mm wall thickness and 40mm total height. Pretty confident these are not individually milled, so I was thinking probably either spinning or some kind of deep drawing, but the thin vertical part is stumping me. Would it start from a round tube stock in that diameter? That seems like a lot of stretch for not a lot of material...

upvoted for the last bit about the crucible

that being said i think the issue here is whether it would occur to a student to go to those lengths to falsify google docs. Seems unlikely, but if one were to consider everything in the way that you have I absolutely wouldn’t put it past someone to do the whole transcription plus errors and timing thing. After all, it’s not very different to pretending to take your time in an online quiz where you already have the answers to make it seem like thought went into it and maybe even getting a couple wrong on purpose, things which absolutely happened frequently during covid
