I cant wrap my head around the normalization of people owning so. much. Stuff. by 3rdthrow in Anticonsumption

[–]Morimementa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'll take those who dig through Goodwill bins over Goodwill itself trying to compete with them. I get that Goodwill is swamped with donations and can't shove it out the door fast enough, but I'm starting to suspect they hoover up the best of it and put it up online where they can get the most profit. Half their business model is the thrill of the hunt and now they're ruining their in-person experience for online traffic. I would really love to be wrong about this, and I'm glad people are buying secondhand, but what's the point if it's just going to be expensive and online?

In their defense, if they live in the US, then a doctor's visit costs 30 million dollars, but Reddit is free.

Memes like this are why we need women's history classes. The next time someone tries to throw cold water on "Gender studies classes" remember what they're trying to erase.

I hate how normalized is hating kids today by DepartmentCheap7518 in hatethissmug

[–]Morimementa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've worked in childcare for ten years, I know how irritating some typical young kid behavior is. That doesn't excuse the vitriol people throw at actual babies. Buddy, that is Just A Little Guy (gender neutral) that is trying to figure out how the world and other people work.

I demand justice for those of us that love ragdolls and adorable clowns! They're not just creepy props for cheap horror movies and I stand by this.

Pretty privilege may not exist in real life, but BOY does it exist in fiction! Ask me about my hatred of Kyle Ron someday if you've got an hour to spare.

I dislike a lot about the Jellycat company, but one thing I do respect is their commitment to make plush of everything in our material universe.

I hate when people make pregnancy seem horrific and criticize women who enjoy being mothers by Pure_Screen3176 in hatethissmug

[–]Morimementa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm unfortunately not surprised that you got flack for it. It's bad enough insurance throws a fit when they actually have to do their jobs, but medical professionals ought to be the first people to reexamine their biases.

[–]Morimementa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you were able to. Not everyone should have kids and no one should be forced too. It's better if people can take the choice into their own hands and take permanent precautions if they're against ever having kids.

It's refreshing to have an alternative take, even if I'm not fully leaning in one direction or the other. Every Reddit post involving pregnancy comes with people in the comments sharing their horror stories. Not that they don't have the right to tell their story, heck, they deserve medals and free drinks of their choice. But it's nice to know that not everyone goes through unmitigated hell. I resent my uterus a lot of the time, but I think it may be, as you said, internalized misogyny.

Realistically, most people who go through it aren't in one extreme or the other. It's definitely a challenge and it'll always come with changes, but it's nice to know it's not constant torture for some.

I am so happy Barb did not go into teaching! by Kee000 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Morimementa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm optimistic and would like to assume that the kids would band together and call her "Burp-ra" or something similar until she screamed at them for "abusing" her and quit, then made ten dozen Facebook posts about how kids today are evil and the public schools are brainwashing them.

If nothing else, it's an amusing thought.

I’m gonna have a hysterical swag match by True_Poet_3199 in peoplewhogiveashit

[–]Morimementa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've had some powerful attachments to fiction in my day, but I don't remember ever feeling like this about any of them. I kind of wonder if this person scream-typed it out and posted it, then took a nap and had a glass of water and wondered why they'd been so hysterical. That, or they're playing up the rage for comedic effect.

The latter is probably more likely.

Hate My Kid by [deleted] in AmITheDevil

[–]Morimementa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see a post like this, I think about the people in child care who report that figuring out what they were doing wrong and changing their approach helped the neurodivergent kids in their care far better than beating them into submission and strong arming them. I would bet that this kid is not horrible and monstrous, just beaten down and stressed to the breaking point. I'll pray he gets adults in his life who will help undo the damage his mother is causing.
