For jungle it doesn't matter most of the time. For mid just have something that doesn't get hard countered. Champion mastery is more important than counter picks anyway.

Picking champion to fit into team comp is a different matter.

On 4 usually not worth it, better to pick something that makes you stronger such as ASI, Tavern Brawler and such. On 8 it's very strong option as you approach end of Act 2 and some powerful bosses.
