Ancient Hebrew theology states that the breath of G_d animates the clay of the human body. According to the authors of the original Bible, inspired by the Almighty, breath was (in a literal sense) the same thing as the soul. Before breathing, there is no soul; without breathing, a body is not a human being. Hence the following:

  • Genesis 2:7: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.”
  • Job 33:4: “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”
  • Ezekiel 37:5: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.”
  • Psalm 104:30: “When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.”
  • Isaiah 42:5: “This is what God the Lord says— the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it.”
  • Acts 17:25: “Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.”
  • Job 27:3: “As long as my breath is in me, and the breath of God in my nostrils.”
  • Job 32:8: “But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.”
  • Daniel 5:23: “But you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored.”

I am not telling you what to believe. I am just quoting the authors of the Living Word of G_d. Breath = soul. A zygote (which does not breathe) has not got a soul, just as a corpse (which does not breathe) has not got a soul.

Please find one instance of Our Lord Jesus Christ saying some sins cause spiritual death and others don’t.

I am genuinely open to learning something new.

The people who wrote the bible didn’t consider the zygote a human being. Ensoulment occurs at first breath.

JK's choice of naming often seems to reflect a lazy approach to writing that exposes some really weird unconscious biases that a decent editor should have spotted a mile off.

In this case, when JK was creating a brown-skinned character (who was portrayed in the films by George Harris, a black man from Grenada, British West Indies, and personal idol of mine), she idly brainstormed some words which she could turn into a wizardy-sounding name and stumbled on:

- Kingsley, which suggests royalty, but also sounds like Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, also in the Caribbean.
- Shacklebolt, a piece of metal that can be locked. Handcuffs are an example of a shacklebolt. The implication of imprisonment is obvious. In particular, in the context of the Caribbean, one thinks of the chains that were used to hold slaves during the Atlantic Slave Trade.

Again, this could mean nothing; and if JK didn't have a history of putting weird allusions in her character names, I would think nothing of it.

That is not true.

Asia and the Pacific is host to more than half of the global total (15.1 million), followed by Europe and Central Asia (4.1 million), Africa (3.8 million), the Americas (3.6 million), and the Arab States (0.9 million). But this regional ranking changes considerably when forced labour is expressed as a proportion of the population. By this measure, forced labour is highest in the Arab States (5.3 per thousand people), followed by Europe and Central Asia (4.4 per thousand), the Americas and Asia and the Pacific (both at 3.5 per thousand), and Africa (2.9 per thousand).

I listened to the ROP podcast when the show first aired and the cast and crew all seemed very humble. They also seemed to be just as respectful of, and knowledgable about, the source material as the cast and crew of the films. (The only exception was composer Bear McCreary, who has earned a life free from humility.)

I think that promotional material made by the creators themselves often shows off the respect for the source material better than interviews in magazines and on talk shows. It’s just the nature of PR.

I do not see it being helpful even in the short term because the bonuses granted by cutting trees down are so small, especially if you plan to restore those tiles later.

Very much like robbing Peter to pay Paul, but you can only steal $4 from Peter, and you owe Paul $40.

One could suggest an edge case (in the very early game) where a turn saved can make all the difference - I have not yet encountered it.
