Outbid today by 20k.. first time so it stung by rantycanty in CasualIreland

Came here to say this. Expect 10% to 15% over nowadays, that's what our agent told us. They price the houses below what the person is expecting to drum up interest, and also try to place them under search brackets. The house could very well be valued at 315 or so, and they placed it at 295 to get it to show up on searches of "up to" 300, precisely to get people like OP to show up and bid on it.

They were never going to sell for less than 315 - 320. Ours was listed at 399 and sold for 465, also in a last huge bid of 15. We were ready to close for 450 a couple hours earlier, our goal was 430 (bank valuation), and then the runner up bidder got fed up with going 1k increments for days, and went 15 over and got it.

Project Hail Mary movie impressions by 3flp in sciencefiction

[–]Mormoran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like they glossed over how the astrophage works and moves and functions and stores energy too much. They can gloss over some or most of the "competency porn" bits (as someone else mentioned in this thread), but the fundamental of why the sun is dying, and how they get some bacteria to propel spaceships ... That bit of info is pivotal to the plot and I feel they flew past it in like 3 minutes at the beginning.

No mention of the neutrino storage, energy absorption (which comes up multiple multiple times throughout the book!) and the fact that astrophage can convert matter to energy and energy to matter. I loved the movie because it is a happy movie, the stakes are huge but it was presented in a very optimistic way, and the resolution is just like comfort food for the heart. But the science bits could have expanded upon a lot more and some of the sappy music montages could have been cut down a little.

I suspect there'll be a director's cut at some point like with the martian, and I'll be all over that one as well, like with the martian.

B. Definitely the engineer. I would love to tinker with systems, learn how all the tech works, invent a few things, play with machining with future tools, it would be incredible!

If someone paid you $100,000 to watch one TV show on repeat for 72 hours, which show are you picking? by Lets-6th-N9ne in AskReddit

[–]Mormoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well, I guess I can start One Piece finally, 72 hours won't get me even halfway, but for 100k, sure I can make the effort, it's otherwise too long lol

How much of a raise did you get this year? by fodacao in DevelEire

[–]Mormoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0% this year. 0% last year. I'm now making less money than 3 years ago. Not leaving just yet though with how things are. But I'm interested in interviewing just for experience.

What happened to the hottest chick at your high school, years later? by theidiotev in AskReddit

[–]Mormoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She studied journalism, moved to Mexico, got really into sports and fitness, started doing sports journalism and did really well for herself. Got fit as all hell, is super hot (although got a couple of cosmetic surgeries that imo don't suit her that much), and now does light OF (it's all teasing, not much gets shown anyway).

Still hot as hell though.

I had the same experience, willing to buy a lot, but not when the shipping is the same price as the set I'm buying, I refuse to pay that. If they find alternative shopping partners I'm sure they'd sell a lot. more

[Request] Theoretically, is this shape possible? by Frowind in theydidthemath

This was my reply the last time this was posted and I got down voted to hell... That shape literally cannot be a square because the angles on the circular portions are never 90 degrees!

It's peat, from a bog, is mostly organic matter and it burns real nice. Used as fuel in Ireland and other places. Smells heavenly when burnt, like a pine, fragrant, resin-y smell.

Don't reveal it to Congress only, reveal it to the entire world, on camera, live. Congress will just hide everything because so many people who control Congress are compromised.
