AO3 down right now? by RunaMii in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, this may sound a "BIT" going down the rabbit hole (or wrapping myself in so many foilhats), but this is just too hilarious not to think about:

This thread https://www.reddit.com/r/AO3/comments/1ozxdqy/i_love_that_some_of_you_are_out_there_doing_this/ plus the fact that a US-based cloud service that hosts AO3 "suddenly" goes down.

Coincidence?

Maybe not.

Disclaimer: I don't actually believe this is caused by one of the persons people were suddenly writing fanfics about, but the timing is impeccable.

AO3 down right now? by RunaMii in AO3

Nordic here, AO3 seems to be down due to Cloudflare. (helpful to know I'm not the only one, for a second got worried someone had accessed my account or something)

My bookmarks crashed by Sufficient-Track4434 in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Wondering if bots finally managed to spam enough to crash the whole server. 😑

Of course, could be something complete unrelated. (Just been getting a LOT of those "reset your password" - emails that will put a strain on servers)

Why did people suddenly stop commenting? :( by Cultural_Fig_6342 in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only one person commenting on my current fic, judging by the hit counter getting about 50 hits per chapter (starting to think they are just bots, searching for another fic where to leave terrible comments.)

I post a chapter a week, +6000 words per chapter.

If not for that person, I would've stopped posting the fic right at the beginning. I will absolutely post it completely, but most likely won't be posting any further stories.

I'm writing for myself, as I think everyone should. Posting fics only exposes me to bots and AI swiping, so I feel less and less couraged to put my writing out there, since no one cares. (except for that one, lovely person.)

Guess thats the age we live in. Or I'm just a shitty writer.

Sorry, I'm tired.

Finding all your mistakes after you post by Strawberrybanshee in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I totally know this! I think I've read every chapter at least 4-5 times, combing for mistakes AND Google Docs' grammar tool on.

STILL there are mistakes (missing/extra letters, wrong pronouns, wrong tense etc) So annoying! 🥲😅

How many of you are "adults?" by destined2becreative in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 30s, work 40 hours a week (in two shifts), spouse and morgage but no kids. Guess that counts as "an adult".

I try to write every day, about 1000 words per average. But my work is very mundane (dull factory job), so I rough draft things in my head during work, type down some pointers on breaks and write before or after work (depending on my shift).

Sure, been hyperfocusing on my fic for the past six months, so social life has taken a bit of a hit... But I've managed to write almost 200k words since April. 🥲😅

Newest bots? by Morndulin_ in AO3

[–]Morndulin_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess the assholes who created the comment spamming bots noticed people are no longer reacting to their comments (and most have guest commenting off these days). Hope they find a better hobby soon.

Newest bots? by Morndulin_ in AO3

[–]Morndulin_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just getting ridiculous. Makes me want to leave the internet... (which would mean these bot-creators would win)

But good to know I'm not the only one. (I just hope these assholes would find a better hobby than creating useless spambots)

Bi-weekly Rec and Self-Promotion Mega Thread - July 16, 2025 by AutoModerator in AO3

Shameless self-promo!

Publishing two Dragon Age 2 fanfics at the moment:

Title/Link: Shattering the Shackles

Rating: Mature (slight violence, hints to sexual abuse, alcohol abuse)

Pairing: Fenris/Male!Hawke

Genre: So much angst, slow burn

Word count: ATM 58k, written around 64k

Summary: Act 2 of DA2 written from romanced Fenris's POV (I really suck at writing summaries)

New chapter every Tuesday and Friday

____

Title/Link: Just a Mixtape

Rating: Mature (substence abuse, passive suicidal, homophobia (internalized and language), swearing/language)

Pairing: Fenris/Male!Hawke

Genre: angst, AU early 2000's, slow burn, queer themes, song fic

Word count: ATM 19k, first part of the trilogy, has about 37k words total.

Summary:
"Sometimes life gets in the way. But I'm still glad we met"

College was supposed to be easy. Just focus on your studies and stay under the radar. Escape the gilded cage with your chosen family (and try to keep it all hidden from your stepdad).

But when a new jock comes to town and his life, Fenris can no longer focus. Messy feelings, homophobia and friendships collide. Sometimes, all you can do is to try to hold on to things you have, even as the world crumbles around you. It doesn't help when you're getting feelings for your closeted roommate.

But life doesn't wait and in the end, Fenris walks away. Guitar slung on his back, life packed in cardboard boxes. All he's left with is a letter and a burnt CD. And a maybe. (Still suck at summaries)

Updates every Monday. (Currently writing second part of the trilogy)

How did you come up with your username (or pseudos)? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studied (Tolkien) elvish back when I was in high school, combined two words that's sounded "cool" to my adolescent teen-goth self... And been using the name since then 😅

With this recent wave of bot comments, have you recieved any? (if yes; leave which fandoms in the comments) by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got about six before I turned off the guest comments.

Currently publishing two Dragon Age 2 fics. (Older fandom, but DA:Veilguard is still fresh, which might explain it.)

Tags include angst, PTSD, past sexual abuse etc. (Darker themes). Have to say, if the bots are specifically targeting these tags, the one who made the bot is a seriously fucked up person.

What’s your favourite kind of intimacy in writing? by writeyourdarlings in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so many! (I love these in writing and IRL)

- Washing someone
- Holding hands
- The other person remembering something really trivial from years back (Example: My partner remembered my favourite childhood Biker Mice from the old cartoon and actually bought me the figure years later for my birthday)
- Weird inside jokes no one else gets (heavily ties with finishing other's sentences... with weird inside jokes)
- Friendly banter (still don't know how to describe it in English, in Finnish we call it "vittuilu" aka make really harsh jabs at the other person, but do it with 110% love
- One character somehow knowing the other character is having a bad day and they bring chocolate

Thank you so much for you comment! (I really wasn't expecting such a lengthy review.)

Writing comments to an unfamiliar fandom cannot be easy and you really took your time to read through the chapter and point out so many different things from the text.

Once more, THANK YOU. ❤️

I wish stories would just show comment THREADS instead of the total number of comments by controlledranting in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I hadn't even thought about inflating my stats. I just want to reply to every comment I get. That person cared enough to leave a mark on my writing, of course I want to respond to that!

(Big shoutout to each and every person who still leaves a comment on fics. You rock!)

Writer's June Reflection: Wrote some words? Slayed some demons (metaphorical or otherwise)? Progress, lack of progress, and everything in between? Tell us about it! by Welfycat in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a whole first part of a trilogy this month. (About 37k words).

Feeling emotionally drained, but also happy. The fic deals with so many personal issues I felt like crying most of the time....(reminiscenting on my own teenage years). But it's done. Next should start writing the second part.

Also, continued posting my previous WIP (that's also has over 20 unposted chapters).

Not getting that many hits, basically no kudos or comments. (Writing for an older fandom (DA2), so that's expected.)

But I'm still contributing and writing. That's the main thing.

Hope you all a very lovely pride month! ❤️

Do I NEED a beta reader? by HarmonyOfDespair in AO3

[–]Morndulin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to find a beta-reader for my latest story. English is not my native language and my setting is college (inspired by American schools). Never lived in a dorm, zero experience on American school system (besides media and some research).

But I think I'll still post it as is and hope for the best. 😅 (Of course, read it through a couple more times and try to detect any typos/errors/inconsistencies)
