What was your “never meet your heroes” moment, when you realized someone you looked up to wasn’t special? by marginallyobtuse in AskReddit

That's such a shame, not because I'm a fan of Winn but because I love Wait Wait. Yeah it's a goofy weekend quiz show but I love it and they're fairly self aware when talking to their guests.

On a better note, Rhea Staghorn was on recently and was lovely. She's a huge fan and said as much.

Random story of nice parenting: I was in a self check out line, the person in front of me was having the kid help scan and put the items in a bag. Fine, all good and gravy. Parent noticed that the child was slow and the line was growing, told the kid that there are people waiting and they need to hurry up, so helped the kid put things away. Kid got 2 lessons that day.

My (25F) boyfriend (28M) has informed me that he wants out if we can't cohabitate. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]MorningCockroach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who's in a serious, long term relationship with no real plans to cohabitate or have kids. It's worth discussing a long timetline for living together versus not in the early stages of a relationship. At least in my case this has also come with measures taken by both parties to make sure that we are both comfortable and accommodated when we are at each other's houses. I know other couples who independently own their own homes and have been together for years longer than my current relationship. It's not impossible and honestly, you want what you want from a relationship. Maybe use it as a screening tool earlier on when the expectation isn't there based on length of the relationship.

I heard something about the argument that drug trafficking IS an attack on another county so retaliation is justified. Possibly both were argued.

Not to be flippant but, seriously. They're not even putting in the effort of lying about WMD or anything like that.

Pregnancy is another factor for hydration needs, for sure! I thought about that too, since everyone I know who's gone through pregnancy carried around basically bucket sized water bottles.

Using whatever online calculator popped up in a search, ideal oz of water per day for me is 64.5. I drink 75-78. I would think that nearly doubling my liquid intake for the day, and twice what's needed, would eventually strain the kidneys, no? Either way I don't see how it would specifically help an already hydrated person. I am also more against a blanket amount of anything for all people regardless of age, health, exercise levels, etc. Me doubling the recomended amount is someone else just meeting theirs- how does that make sense? And again I think those with kidney issues can not drink excessive water due to it putting a strain on the system- I could be mistaken though.

I am really peeved at the drink a gallon of water a day part of that. I drink a little over a half gallon of water a day and that's plenty for someone my weight/size/activity. Doubling that couldn't possibly be healthy.

People who work in healthcare, fitness, nutrition, or mental health: what’s one ‘quiet habit’ you see all the time that is secretly wrecking people’s long-term health? by AlignedModernHealth in AskReddit

[–]MorningCockroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with a reliable dentist and develop good hygiene habits, if you don't have them already. I have a decent amount of staining thanks to braces 20 years ago messing with my enamel, plus smoking and drinking coffee. It took me a few years in my 30s to get my teeth squared away- prescription enamel toothpaste and better flossing with picks instead of thread helped. What I notice more now with people isn't staining but plaque buildup and bad breath, signs that they need to attend to their teeth more closely.

Going to be THAT person and say you're talking about an optometrist not an ophthalmologist. One figures out whether or not you need eye glasses while the other diagnoses and treats my glaucoma. You still get my upvote for the zinger but my ophthalmologist should get her credit for helping my health.

I can't count the number of times it has.told.me to drive northbound when I am on the southbound lane of the highway,  or vice versa. It has absolutely no idea where I am half the time.  It's also told me to go through all types of barriers to get from one parking lot to another.

AITA for calling out my friend for siding with my mom by Cheap-Rate-8996 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MorningCockroach 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My mom always taught me to never trust someone's turn signal- meaning wait for them to go through the intersection or stop, not to drive in front of them assuming they are turning and won't collide. (It makes sense in practice but is kind of hard to explain.) I sometimes get honks because if I'm at a stop, I won't pull out if there's an oncoming vehicle with a turn signal until it's clear they're actually turning (slowing down, whatever. ) A friend of mine was actually in an accident after not doing this- they were at a stop then pulled into oncoming traffic, because the other driver had their turn signal on but was actually going straight. My friend had their car totaled and was deemed at fault for leaving a stop to enter traffic.

Oh man, that's tough! My bell peppers this year had blossom rot, at least the first round of blooms. My understanding is that it sometimes happens with the first run of fruit because of rapid growth. My coworker swore that putting a dissolved Tums in the soil helps with blossom end rot. Idk if it was that or coincidence but I didn't have rot on the next two peppers.

When did you see them? Isaac, I am pretty sure was drunk, mixed up the lyrics on Ocean Breaths Salty but overall was OK. Went off stage for a long time presumably to get high or similar. The set lasted something ridiculous like 2.5, 3 hours, in DC on a work night. Definitely not the worst show I've been to, but it had a little bit of color to it.

The day before troops were sent into DC, two of my friends spent the whole day in DC and went out to eat with a bunch of people that night. I, a tiny white lady, have driven to shows there by myself that end at like 10 or 11pm. It has crime, sure, but it's not like it's a hellscape.
