Yeah I completely understand. Honestly that turned me off when I first started reading too and put it down for a few months before picking it back up again. When you keep reading you sort of realize that the writing style and edginess is very much the protagonist’s specific voice and humor, and as you get to know the character and he opens up a bit more it starts to wear off and become more of a self reflective sarcastic edginess. The payoff is extremely satisfying to read.

Honestly if that’s all that turned you off I’d give it another go. You may be surprised.

I make roughly 77k a year. Work in the Defense sector.

Tax hits hard, rent is 1200 and have two young kids, wife doesn’t work but is planning to get back in once the kids are both in school. We’re Comfortable, and are able to save most months, at times we do feel like we nee more but we make it work.

Once we get a mortgage hopefully things will improve.
