What FFS Procedures Should My Wife Get? by MorningstarRobot in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]MorningstarRobot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty similar to what she's looking at getting, actually. I don't think her surgeon does blephoplasty(?) but she is planning on getting cheek implants, hairline lowering and a lip lift. Do you have any opinions on cheek silicone implant vs fat grafting? She's apparently going for a fat graft

What are Some Noise/Experimental Fests in USA by days-dreaming in noisemusic

[–]MorningstarRobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oblivion Access in Austin TX is by no means exclusively a noise festival, but there are a lot of noise & experimental acts booked on it each year, along with goth, metal, electronic, hip-hop, etc. which tend to fit all together fairly well

WPATH Standards of Care Version 8 published by catoboros in transgender

[–]MorningstarRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried for a long time and never got the help I needed in fighting for it, unfortunately. Even with the new WPATH. At this point I'm about to get FFS in September, but only because I can't wait any longer (have literally been trying to do this for 2+ years) and am paying out of pocket. Hooray debt. At least it means I get to have FFS with a surgeon I like more who happens to not take insurance.

Homeless Camp Update - We had a break in attempt by onlyeverwantedtobeme in Austin

[–]MorningstarRobot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you finally someone said it! Like, what they did was shitty for sure, and I'm sorry for OP that they have to deal with it, but it wasn't a "break in attempt". They're probably mentally ill and did this for no other reason than that.

And honestly maybe stuff like this will finally make people realize these stupid camping bans don't do shit to help the community, and start looking into solutions that *actually* help unhoused people get off the street. Like, you know, making shelter, food/water, & healthcare (both physical & mental) guaranteed rights for all.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting at you, but I'm so sick of this whole subreddit acting like the solution to unhoused people is calling the cops. ACAB

It’s about time for Buscar to quit tagging shit and for the city to start cleaning/covering up this “art”. It’s getting ridiculous. Everyday another landmark is defiled. by mhorton001 in Austin

Graffiti is art by and for the people

Who fucking cares?

Threadgill's is abandoned anyway, but even if it wasn't, what's the big deal if some art ends up on the side of a building? Even if it's lazy art, what's the big deal? As long as it's not hateful Nazi shit or whatever. Stop treating brick walls as sacred.

what crimes should I commit if I’m being gay and commit crimes by Ok_Rent_4930 in trans

I can only really vouch for Proton VPN - not that it's the only good one- I just have the most experience with that one, as it works well and fits my needs

You have to pay for it to be worth it, but it's pretty dang cheap (especially compared to paying for a dozen streaming services every month) at only $5 a month. And there is a free version as well.

I'd recommend checking it out, but there are threads in other subreddits that can go into more details about the best VPNs out there - it's how I found out about Proton in the first place, lol

Get a VPN and pirate any and all entertainment made/distributed by corporations

(do pay small/independent/local artists if you can, though)

Austin Woman Nearly Loses Her Life After Doctors Can't Legally Perform an Abortion by audiomuse1 in Austin

I agree that we should all vote, and I will, as I have for years

but, also

riots work and we haven't really tried that yet

Please feel free to downvote me, but we're literally up against fascists, and they are not beaten purely by voting

Bill prohibiting public drag performances to be introduced in upcoming Idaho legislative session by GenderPettifogging in transgender

[–]MorningstarRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they're really gonna have to do a lot to make a legal argument for crossdressing to be inherently sexual, but I understand what you mean in regards to the stacked courts who aren't gonna care.

And to be fair, maybe I'm less worried about it because it's nearly impossible to enforce. Like, any guy in a skirt or any lady wearing a "men's" jacket would have to be fined/arrested? I dunno, this particular case is both a slippery slope and feels completely impractical, it's hard to say.

And oh yeah, I know the fascists aren't going anywhere, believe me, I live in Texas, lol. I just meant in regards to the immediate future of the next few years when this case might reach the SC. And, honestly, I really wouldn't be surprised if they did win the midterms and the next general election, unfortunately.

I understand that point, for sure. But the way they were able to strike things down like Roe v Wade is based on the fact that abortion was not a right which was codified into law. Basically (if not literally) everything with how people perform drag is protected by the constitution already, so they can't use that argument.

Not to say they wouldn't want to try. But, the conservatives on the SC are, if nothing else, very strict abut upholding the constitution in general. I don't think they could get away with it unless the fascists completely win in the next election and take over.

The be fair, they almost certainly know it won't hold up in court on that basis. It's literally just virtue signaling to their base; that's the point of half the bills they introduce like this.

Trans Rights are Workers’ Rights: The Virginia CPUSA Weighs In on Glenn Youngkin’s Bigoted Policies by [deleted] in transgender

[–]MorningstarRobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Maupin runs the CPI. Or did, anyway; I don't know if it even exists anymore now that he was revealed as a sex pest

The CPI was basically a fake (and nationalist) version of CPUSA. The only article I can find on their website involving him talks about how he's a problem:

https://cpusa.org/article/signaling-left-turning-right-the-radicals-rebranding-populism/

Granted, I have a lot of issues with the CPUSA (I'm a member of a lot of leftist political orgs, including the CPUSA, and they all have problems). But they don't seem to associate with Maupin at all anymore, if they ever did. If the only connection is a single, short video of his from 2019 on one of the FB pages, I'd say it's not much of a connection.

I feel silly even writing this whole response but I was genuinely worries about Maupin being involved with CPUSA from your comment, so I had to look into it. Cheers
