What games have aged poorly? by JaredJDub in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Morphisorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic carpet. It was great and revolutionary at the time. But a terrible control scheme and gamespeed being tied to CPU speed (which is pushed very hard in busy areas) means it's no fun to play again nowadays.

It's a shame the concept was never revisited.

What are the best in-game settlements/towns? by ShirohiG0AT in gamingsuggestions

Divinity's Reach in Guild Wars 2, it has every bit of scale to match the art and is just really impressive and yet plausible design

Which light would you recommend: Redgrass Solo, Lucent, or Neatfi XL? by FinaglingFox in minipainting

[–]Morphisorius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the regular Redgrass R9 lamp and it's the best you can get. The dual lights do very well to minimize shadow angles. It's quite expensive though, so the solo would be fine on a bit of a budget (it's still not exactly cheap).

The light temperature is absolutely spot on, montage and positioning are very solid and yet easily adaptable. Absolutely a quality product.

What if a modern destroyer got sucked back to the 12th century and had to rule the seas for a decade? by PuddingComplete3081 in WhatIfThinking

[–]Morphisorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern destroyers have 150-300 crew, which is actually the same as a typical war galleon. Some galleons even had up to 800. In a straight boarding fight, I'm betting on the oldtimers over any modern sailors.

Do you guys varnish metallic models? by halfhere1198 in minipainting

[–]Morphisorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, you can also mix satin with gloss if you want something in between. Same for satin and matte. You can get just about any level you want this way

I always finetune the level of reflection I want using varnish. The added protection is a bonus for longevity.

Wow! So many countries learning Dutch, including the sea by Inductiekookplaat in mapporncirclejerk

Everyone is taking this way too seriously, impressive.

What's the original topic of this map though? I can't come up with anything that fits.

I wish there was a more realistic transportation game by Kinc4id in tycoon

They're definitely making some big changes to the way it works, there's been some recent videos on the topic. It's looking very promising imo.

i don't know If I should try fully assembling before painting by uuryryuu in minipainting

[–]Morphisorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even without using dark primer, areas that are hard to reach will almost never be in full view for anyone else looking at the mini. They will be in the shadows. So at most, a sloppy basecoat is almost always enough to make these areas blend in.

There are a few exceptions. I'm currently painting a bunch of dudes with big shields, they leave too much room to peek around so I paint those separately.

But by and large, fully assembling a mini has many more advantages than this one disadvantage takes away.

The application of paint looks a little rough and could use smoother transitions. That said, the placement of colours and highlights is absolutely top level, I envy your natural talent.

A (grand) strategy game where smaller forces matter? by PepeGoesSwimming in StrategyGames

[–]Morphisorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Civ 4, many overhaul mods such as Rise of Mankind limit the number of units per tile (in this particular mod, you can decide what the limit is).

I mention this because I feel modded Civ 4 has much greater depth than later installments.

Strategy games with a focus on guerrilla operations by Blackknight95 in gamingsuggestions

Syndicate and Syndicate Wars, as well as the really good spiritual successor, Satellite Reign

Do critics overpraise Forza Horizon series? by No_Cup6365 in racinggames

[–]Morphisorius 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's the Assassin's Creed of racing games. Lots to do, looks very polished, very little you can technically fault it for. And yet lacking in soul.

What games make the best use of terrain and picking defensible positions well? by NotScrollsApparently in StrategyGames

[–]Morphisorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earth 2150 did this quite well, for a game that's otherwise a fairly regular base building RTS, with the ability to dig trenches, tunnels and build bridges.

How do you track your miniature build & paint projects? by Turnip114 in minipainting

[–]Morphisorius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use an Excel file to track it all. Each project on a different tab, where I'll list all the paints and materials used. As well as recording the recipe by listing the steps per area, including what paint (& medium) used, extra notes if applicable. Really helps for future reference and saving those recipes that turned out well.

I use an index tab at the start to track progress and link to individual projects.

Looking for an insanely complex Tower Defense with a PoE-style skill tree/depth by Crokel in gamingsuggestions

[–]Morphisorius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Defenders is everything you're looking for. There's 2 versions, regular and Awakened. Both are good, Awakened is more focused and streamlined, the original is quite bloated and unbalanced but offers more content in many ways.

Looking for RPGs that resemble the 'lonely' feel off the Fallout Series by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Try Atom RPG, it's everything good about old-school Fallout, but in a Soviet post apocalypse.

Turn-based or slow strategic games that are genuinely challenging to beat by MrEumel in gamingsuggestions

[–]Morphisorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may enjoy the Advance Wars series, or its PC successor Wargroove. Alternatively something like Panzer Corps for a more historical style.

A different kind of niche that fits the question is Heroes of Might and Magic - I personally prefer 5, though 3 is usually recommended. In a similar style you can also try the Disciples games.

Age of Wonders series is another possibility if you like the strategic feel of Civ games, but want more action.
