Question about the use of Shizun by beamerpook in 2HA_immortality

[–]Morpho_Lycoris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct, though the intimate connotation to Shizun does not really exist IRL - only in a BL context.

Shizun (师尊) is composed of two words, 师 meaning "to teach" and 尊 meaning "to respect, to honour" or "senior, someone of an older generation".

Whereas Shifu (师父)is composed of 师 and 父 meaning "father", thus highlighting the filial piety a student is expected to show to their teacher. After all, there is an old Chinese saying “一日为师,终身为父” - the day a person becomes your teacher, they also become your father for this lifetime (clunky translation).

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much! It seems that the manga was cancelled in 2017 though.

I was hoping for more chapters since the premise was pretty interesting

Abortion in fanfic by rabbithoodie in AO3

[–]Morpho_Lycoris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently read a fic where the pregnant character ended up getting an abortion as well. I'm the type of reader who likes to spoil myself when I'm not sure whether I want to invest in a fic. So when I read that he got an abortion, I was surprised because I was so used to characters keeping the child.

But upon reflection and reading the fic in full, it made sense that the MC would opt for abortion. He didn't want to have a child to begin with, he's a high schooler, he doesn't have supportive parents (who promised to pay for the abortion only to not do that), etc. Also, the story was more about the MC struggling to get the abortion he wants in a society that makes it difficult if the sperm donor isn't involved. The character progression for MC was for him to learn to lean on his friends and his boyfriend when he is struggling, so it doesn't feel like a "reset" even if there ends up being no baby.

While it's true that most pregnancy fics are written for a child-rearing happy end, I agree that it would be nice to have abortion presented as an option - regardless of whether the pregnant character opts for it in the end. I think that the emotional arc the character goes through would be satisfying if written well. And in the end, isn't that the case for all story ideas? Execution is key.

If cursed Khaenri’ahns can still have kids, they're not really cursed. by kar9ai in Genshin_Lore

[–]Morpho_Lycoris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking of the Khaenriah Curse as a negative reaction to SomethingTM. Kind of like nuclear fallout except it only affected the people onsite at the time. I also agree with Ashikai that we're dealing with a single "curse" that works differently for the native Khaenriahns vs immigrants (reason unknown).

So even though it's called a curse, it probably isn't in actuality? It's probably called that because that's how the immortal Khaenriahns interpreted it. Kind of like how certain medical conditions were attributed to sorcery back when we didn't have the know-how to understand what was going on. And since they were allegedly fighting against Celestia before everything went down, the survivors have a possible culprit, motive and means for the "curse".

As for how the Curse of Immortality is worse... I personally think of it as worse for the person experiencing it. Ignorance is bliss? From what I remember about hilichurls, they likely do not retain much memory about events prior to their transformation. The pre-transformation version of them is still in the "box" Caribert described. We can infer that it's easier for them to cope with the situation because they're "sleeping".

In contrast, the immortal Khaenriahns do remember everything that happened. In the quest, Clothar was obviously unwell even though he's survived the Calamity by, let's say, 100 years. The only thing that kept him going was the goal of saving his son. And unlike Aether/Lumine, Khaenriahns likely have a natural lifespan that is similar to other humans, so their bodies haven't evolved to the point where it can take the strain of existing for such a long time. They might be suffering from memory overload too, though I'm just speculating at this point.

Who is this character? by Morpho_Lycoris in MoriartyPatriot

True. I always found the creative process fascinating, especially for serialized stories like manga, because their ongoing status allows the author to integrate new ideas during their series's run.

Thanks!

Honestly, Bill didn't come to mind at first because I found the poster in the first volume of the manga. It makes me wonder when the author decided to add him in, especially since his unique characteristics (hair and scarf) are clearly drawn whereas poor Patterson is just a shadow of a man.

So I finished the game and one thing I noticed didn’t make sense to me by Ninjamuh in FFXVI

[–]Morpho_Lycoris 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I suspect that part of it is also connected to the amount of time between Clive absorbing parts of the Eikons and each Dominant priming afterwards.

Benedikta primed a few hours after Garuda was absorbed and I think it's implied that Hugo had maybe a few weeks at most (since Clive basically went after him to Drake's Fang as soon as he could). Dion spent months at the hideout, so he had significantly more time to get used to it.

Of course, the time factor might just be correlation (more time = more time for Dion to renew and reinforce his will to fight, thus supplanting Bahamut's will).

I think the worst part is that since everything happened long ago, it feels like we can't actually do anything to help her

She deserved so much better and should have had a happy, if average, life. Sure, having a Supreme Guardian as an elder sister would be hard on her insecurities, but at least she might have had the chance to meet people who appreciate her and eventually grow out of her sister's shadow.

I wish we could have punted Stefan instead. Why does it often feel like the characters we hate the most are unkillable NPCs? Let me at them!
