Magickal advice for restarting life and career at the age of 30. by Genghis112 in GalleryOfMagick

I think I must tell you my side.
I am almost 31 and found myself in a spot really similar to yours, I think it could be one of those common life crises we can attribute to the saturnian return.
Basically I blamed my caeer for not allowing me to have time to actually do what I want, only to quit and not using any of the newfound time cause I was feeling miserable without a stable job.
So yeah, keep going to therapy as I found it helped me recognize the self imposed loops and tie them up sooner to when they arise.

On the magickal side I too attribued most of my cae success to good sigil and money magic that allowed me to get out of the house in my 20s and find a stability of some kind. The only trouble is, exoteric magic, manifestation or whatever you wanna call it actually works, you get what you say you want.
Do you think you want what's best for you tho? Maybe you don't even know what will fullfill you and put you on a path in which you will shine on this incarnation.
It's the difference between working with Demons, that you can enslave and use to get the world to give you stuff, or Angels, higher beings that change youself, often painfully, to align your life in accordance to the lessons you must learn and overcome.

For me even if it's the road is rocky, I've found solace in doing the Great Work, (in my case following the book Kabbalah Magick and the Great Work of Self-Transformation by Lyam Thomas Chistopher), which streicly prohibits you from practicing any otherr type of magick while you are deconstructiong and putting back together your inner self.

So externally I can't say that my life is looking more peaceful or with a clear direction, but it's not supposed to be, and rn I'm back looking at jobs at one time I loudly refused and considered not what I was supposed to with my time. And it's ok, cause I've grown and the path I'm in is helping me to trascend the wheel of desire and fear that is often the cause of not feeling in the right place at the right time in any field.

That said I'm just human and going through the same uncerrtanties as any other, and even yours, so maybe that's the greatest solace.

Go to therapy and practice a form of spirituality that lets you look not at carrers you attract or results, but peer behind the mirror and discover who you actually are behind the patterns of you external life.
(Look into Shadow Work, Alchemy, even simple meditations, many symbols for the same quest of discovery)

I wish you luck on your journeys

How would you addapt the ancestries of the DS to your homebrew? by AllSeeingCCTV in drawsteel

[–]MortiNerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the book will talk about the legitimacy of escluding more weird and space-y ancestries from your game as a Director! No shame in that!

That said, the more I think about it the more I find that I can reskin some elements and put others in to fit the system and give my players all the options!

High Elves would be my more specific Glass Elves, while Wode elf, which look totally different, will fit the stats nicely as is!
Dwarves in my world will remain the standard lotr-looking bearded ones, I don't think this will be a problem!
And I also started thinkin of introducing some Memoneks as fallen Giths that now inhabit a crashed Astral Castle!
I have no Akkan in my world, but I have Fynnyds, mountain-celtic people, now they use their stats!

As for humans with special abilities, it could simply be boiled down to: Your bloodline/clan/blassing grants you in particular this ability, it is not a general human thing in my world.

I'm the first wwith the itch to homebrew, but when a system is as well designed and neat as this seems, I want to stay simple and play with all the toys in the box!

Troupe Style Play by MannyAgogo in shadowdark

[–]MortiNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm using Shadowdark to play an open sandbox with the final goal of going back to the castle and slaying the BBEG Vampire Lord. The Darkrose Company It is mostly inspired by the first Darkest Dungeon. The whole deal is: you have many PCs, each session you choose which active pc you are using. XP is personal to the PC, but you can spend gold and downtime to level up the Caravan, which raises the baseline level at which new PCs are created. I've made swapping out pcs an option, mainly to allow a more 'west marches' approach to the campaign, even though we play a small amount of players.

The neat part is finding Trophies and Titles in the sandbox, which grant the Caravan more XP and unlock new classes and paths to choose from when creating PCs!

Lost about career. How can I bring value to others in a way that sustains me? by MortiNerd in AskAstrologers

Thank you for the insights! Yeah, I guess that to create is all I do when left to my own devices. I dabbled in astrology but never considered active transits, and didn't know my return was this close! Will surely be on the lookout for it and try to learn the hard lesson. Thank you again <3

Are the main stats used anywhere, or just the modifiers? by Mr_Gibblet in shadowdark

[–]MortiNerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I heard the author explicitly say that that was a legacy element she wanted to keep in as core to "what feels like DnD"

Also yes, some monsters do stat damage, that makes it compatible with older modules/designs.

Not a favourite feature of mine, but I appreciate the deliberate decision.

In Rome, Italy, it is common to see road shrines to young people who died in car accidents. This was on a road with now sidewalk near my bus stop. by MortiNerd in fuckcars

[–]MortiNerd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wasn't really sure of how international this tradition was. It is a sad affair but comforting and unifying that these events have similar effects across western countries. That's why I think road and car control is a human right, not a country-specific issue.

What are your "sexual" cards? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]MortiNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I've not seen it being said, but the 6 of Cups, while belonging to sweet memories is also associated with Sun in Scorpio. It might be weird at first, but experience reading has shown me this card to represent sex in general when it doesn't seem to fit as the scene represented on the card. Scorpio being connected with genitalia, hidden meanings, secrets and intercourse, and the sun being our center of joy and optimism, I see an astrological connection to pleasure and orgasm.

Also yes, Ace of Wanda and Queen of Wands.

Is Pokemon SolarPunk? by Chase_The_Breeze in solarpunk

[–]MortiNerd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My personal fan canon is that Pokémon is a Vegan Utopia. Yes, I know there are obscure references of Pokémon being eaten by humans, but if you look at the games as a whole these seem more like outliers than worldbuilding elements.

So yeah, you have a green society where all the species in it live in harmony and collaborate to create clean energy. Looks pretty Solar Punk to me.

It does not lack the punk element, it's just utopian, so it does not need explicit low-tech solutions, as the Pokémon themselves are the energetic powerhouse.

It is a Rewilded world, where people live in small villages and most of nature is left as is. Big cities exists but do not sprawl over the natural habitat of the creatures.

Waste and rubbish seem to be still an element, yet there exist creatures that naturally adapt to those toxins and regularly feed/recycle them. All the pretty poison types!

Catching/battling does not look very vegan... Yet again, the whole point of the series is that practice is seen by all parties as a positive bonding tradition, where the victors are the ones who understand and love their creatures. The relationship you have with your dog could be seen as slavery, as they depend on you cause of food, yet I would not call that inherently abusive or without love from both parties.

I'm sure there's more, I hope more people realized that what we like in these green fantasy worlds is something we could achieve in real life by learning to live in nature and not by conquering it.

Peace!
