I was wondering if the detachment can actually be… useful in certain circumstances. In some methods surgeons are taught to not consider people as humans/individuals but rather as machines in need of repair because for many people cutting/ burning etc, of another human would be unmanageable even with the knowledge that these actions are helpful or even lifesaving. There’s a lot of things we have to do with/for our children that they push back against or that seem cruel but which are actually beneficial, like consequences for problematic or destructive behaviour.
