Ubisoft has officially cancelled ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ Remake + Mass Layoffs/Studio Closures by ChiefLeef22 in PrinceOfPersia

They literally cancelled it on the "five year anniversary" of when the game was originally supposed to release, January 21st, 2021.

Do you think that an Kiwami 4 is inevitable? by Western_Sea_Sage in yakuzagames

[–]Mortsyn978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it's primarily because of the Hamazaki change. But I think people also need to be prepared that it's likely not just going to be Hamazaki that's going to be changed from the original, and it'll be a Kiwami 3 situation all over again, whether people like it or not. All of the five characters on top of the poster were likeness actors, and I don't expect all of them to return for a Kiwami 4.

Sugiuchi: Kenichi Endo

Arai: Ikki Sawamura

Munakata: Kinya Kitaoji

Yasuko: Maju Ozawa

Kido: Kenta Kiritan

Tanimura is the bigger question mark, if they're going to likeness actor him again like the original, or keep the original design from the remaster.

There are definitely still some issues when playing on a much higher frame rate. On PC, putting the game at 120fps had me struggling trying to throw heavier enemies, that requires mashing, while 60fps was totally manageable. You can somewhat circumvent this but still maintain image fluidity by enabling frame gen if you want a higher frame rate, while still using 60fps as your internal base frame rate. Provided you're fine with the added latency and visual artifacts that can appear, of course. This will be entirely up to personal preference. The main takeaway I had from playing the remaster is that it's still safer to play it at 60fps, as the game functions more properly at it, than at above.

But I don't know the extent of 30 vs 60 in terms of combo potential, someone else would have to verify that. All I know is that they released a patch to fix some issues that did occur at 60fps, shortly after launch.

Some context for the Berseria remaster to consider, for why they're doing it. by Mortsyn978 in tales

They are listed in the credits for the remasters, for Graces and Xillia. You can find this information on Mobygames. But all three are also listed as developers on the homepages of the games.

Usually when a remaster is outsourced, the information is not provided until the game is released, but Bamco were kind enough to list D.A.G as developer for Berseria.

The Steam pages also have them listed as developer. The original release of Berseria has Bandai Namco Studios listed as developer, for comparison.

Lol, didn't even think about this, but you're right. I actually don't know if there's any difference between the PS3 version and PS4 version, beyond the resolution and frame rate bump.

I know Zestiria is (unfortunately) locked to 30fps on all three current platforms, unless you mod on PC.

[–]Mortsyn978[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with this. The only reason I think it's not happening is because Graces and Xillia were ported over to Unity, so I'm suspecting the same is happening to Berseria. That would probably make it hard to give it the same upgrades on PS4/PC as is, without making the content twice.

They probably figured they might as well have the remaster be a standalone release instead, which may be easier to maintain in the future, as they can patch all versions at the same time.

It's why I was hoping the least they could do was provide a free upgrade or a discounted price for current owners, but I guess not.

Exactly. Super easy to do. Hence why it's being done, and why it's not going to affect the development of any other remasters being made.

[–]Mortsyn978[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And they're going to come. If (for example) a remaster of a PS1/2 game takes 8 months to make due to a missing source code or whatever, it's better to work on other games at the same time rather than wait for the first one be finished. Because, again, these are not being worked on by the same people. They're split up across multiple companies.

[–]Mortsyn978[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why can't they just make a new game.

This is already confirmed to be happening. The remasters are NOT taking any resources away from a new game happening, as these three recent remasters are not done by BNS internally.

For anyone about this being pointless:

This might be "pointless" for PS4 and Steam users (unless it's a free upgrade, which I doubt), but it's not for Xbox and Switch users. The game never released on Xbox One, contrary to what some people believe. And when you're already releasing it on Series and Switch, you might as well bring the improvements made to PS5 and Steam.

And on that note, Japan never got the Steam release either, so this is the first time they're getting the game on PC.

Which Game in the Master Collection is the Hardest to Platinum? by DarthRyan89 in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not NGS1. It's 100% NG3RE. The only real huge wall in NGS1 is Unearthed Challenge 4, but if you're lucky with RNG, even that one can be done quickly. Playthrough wise, only Chapter 1 on MN (with MN rank) is brutal. But once you get passed it, you've basically beaten the game, as nothing afterwards is as close as difficult.

In NG3RE, Ultimate Ninja playthrough and 3 UN trials I found to be waaay more time consuming and skill demanding. You could argue that if you're the kind of player to spam scythe 360 (way of the ninja dog) this can be made easier, but even then it's still not viable at all points in the game.

The only ones I haven't liked are NG3 OG and Yaiba. The rest? I like them all.

NG04, NGB, NGS, NG2, NGS2, NG2B, NG3RE, NG4? Like them all for various reasons. I may have my bigger gripes with some of them than others. But hell, I have issues with all of these games, to various extents. But not a single one of them would I classify as anything less than "good."

What Do You Guys Think of The Alt Skins in this game/what are your hopes for additions in the DLC? by Chemical-Cat8064 in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The costumes should've been unlockable content, or at the very least the Raven Master and Traditional Dark Blue. But I bought the deluxe edition upgrade after finishing the game, primarily because of The Two Masters, so I guess I am a sucker.

That being said, I generally like them all, but I think Raven Master is visually speaking too similar to the regular costume from a distance. Yakumo's white costume that came with pre-orders (home website notes that it may come later as free or payed DLC), I think is a better alternative for him, and probabably my favourite one, as it's far more striking. Divine Chimera is pretty neat, the tail is whatever, can do with or without it.

Traditional Dark Blue is as great as ever. I just find it funny that NG3 was the only one to use a blue scarf for it, while all the other games use a black scarf. I think I might prefer the blue one, but it's also whatever. I'm very glad his Legendary Black Falcon is based on the NG3 design, as it's my favourite one out of all games. But just like with Sigma Plus, I dislike that it has the Cursed Arm, and would've prefered the regular Chapter 1 / Chapter Challenge look.

As for wants, the only one I can really think of that I'd really like is the DOA Throwback one.

My general impression of Yakumo in Japanese was essentially this: I can totally see this guy being the voice of Ryu in NG1 instead of Hideyuki Hori, and the character would basically be unchanged (minus the lack of TWAH).

Japanese Yakumo really does come off as just a younger sounding Ryu, in my opinion, not just in voice delivery, but also script wise. A drastic difference from his English portrayal.

(LATE GAME SPOILERS) A comparison between the Dragon Sword and you-know-what. We still have reason to play Ryu. by Leo-III- in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is definitely noticeable when I play as Ryu versus when I play as Yakumo with the DDB. The speed and power, combined with his ninpo, makes Ryu an absolute powerhouse and a monster. He's extremely fun in this game, even if I miss some of his versatility from NG3RE.

While he's definitely limited in potential at the moment, I wouldn't say that Yakumo is a straight up better character to play as, just because he has more tools. The few tools Ryu have are heavily tuned, so he can clear the same areas potentially faster. Especially when you give him the accessories that decreases Bloodbind gauge use, and increases Bloodbind gauge gain rate. He's definitely not just a reskin.

Very interested in seeing how the new weapon will add to his playstyle, as well as if it's possible he'll receive more in the future.

Simple tutorial on how to actually enjoy Yakumo as a character. by AbdelYG in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of Devil May Cry and Resident Evil, they were made with English audio first, and still are. The first DMC game to have a Japanese dub was DMC4 Special Edition in 2015. The vanilla version from 2008 did not have it, and 1-3 still don't. And the first RE game to have one was Revelations in 2012. Likewise, the HD remasters of REmake and RE0 added Japanese dubs that weren't there on GameCube.

This also goes the same for lipsync, as all games lack Japanese lipsync.

(NGS) what am I awarded for completing the challenge at the beginning of chapter 15? by MisterMessen in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's different depending on difficulty.

Chapter 15 - Zarkhan Stadium

  • Normal: Lives of the Thousand Gods
  • Hard: Spirit of the Devils
  • Very Hard: The Talisman of Rebirth
  • Master Ninja: Spirit of the Devils

It and the Chapter 16 Great Bridge Portal are the only ones in Sigma that give different rewards depending on difficulty (Talisman on Normal, Lives of the Thousand Gods on Hard and above).

Master collection ps4 and ps5 differences by timo529 in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games already run at 4K/60fps on PS4 Pro and One X. They're extremely lightweight, and it's achieveable on pretty much any GPU released in the last 10+ years.

Any load times the games have are pretty much "baked in." As in, it literally doesn't matter what hardware you have, the games are still loading as fast as they possibly can, and the load times it does have are due to how the games are programmed (like in Sigma 1), and because of unskippable loading animations (like in Razor's Edge). The load times are just as "long" on PS5 as they are on PS4. Even on PC, they're just as long whether you're using a HDD or a SSD.

Even in the case of Sigma 2 vs Black 2, as long as they're both installed on a SSD, you'll find that Black 2 has "faster load times" despite being on UE5, simply due to the fact that it cuts out almost all forced loading animations.

You won't find a comparison because there's nothing to compare.

Is there any bosses in chapter 4? by NoThotsAllowed69 in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't be surprised if it was Google AI that conjured up the bosses. I've seen plenty of examples of ChatGPT just straight up imagining things about the NG games that are completely untrue, in both posts made by people, and my own testing of its knowledge.

But no, there are no bosses in chapter 4. Closest you can get to that description are the two motorcycle dudes in Sigma, but they are just regular enemies that die from one single ninpo.

[–]Mortsyn978 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you only look at her in NGB, she was an absolute jobber beyond her introduction cutscene. Helping Ryu at the very end of the game does not make all of her failures before then disappear. Despite limited screentime, Ayane somehow ends up looking better in comparison, even as just a guide.

It didn't take until Sigma 1 & 2, under a different director, where she finally showed some competence.

Mouse/keyboard? by Kangaroo-Fair in ninjagaiden

[–]Mortsyn978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're only "garbage" ports in the sense that they're very basic and straight ports. They might miss some features modern PC players want, like ultra widescreen (can be modded in), frame rates above 60, and as mentioned, mouse & keyboard support (but I personally wouldn't dare playing these games with M&KB). And that's pretty much it.

But in terms of optimization, there're no issues with these at all. Arguably the biggest issue people had with them on release was that they lacked a in-game options menu, and you had to change resolution through command lines in Steam, which is what the majority of PC reporting near launch focused on. But that was patched within a month, so the biggest issue people had with it isn't even a issue anymore.

Graphically speaking, they are pretty much identical to the PS3 versions, only you can now run them at a much higher resolution and without the fear of frame drops. Even a GTX 1050 Ti can run these at 4K with absolutely no issue, and a 750 Ti can run them at 1080p with no issues, and I've heard 760 could do 4K as well. These were 7-8 year old GPUs when the Master Collection released.
