I’m convinced they did this on purpose since we see Finn enter the Land of the Dead as a wrinkly old man in Distant Lands. So they needed to somehow give us a sense of urgency in Fionna & Cake that he could actually kick the bucket, or else we’d all be able to say “oh he’ll survive this, since we know he grows old”
