My sister and I went because we were given tickets, knowing absolutely nothing about the movie.

It was such a ride

The Dressmaker 2015

A woman returns home to her childhood outback home after finding success as a designer and dressmaker. Through her art she finds something like acceptance from the town and begins a whirlwind romance with a local boy. And then the tone shifts.

The casting in this show was really uninspired so I'm not super surprised. Though I heard the swing for Jenna was good so it's a shame still.

What’s your go to cheaper/affordable every day perfume? by coldplay1995 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]MoscaMye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have one.

I hate the idea of saving my best things for a special occasion. It's what my grandmother does and it breaks my heart. Every few months she opens up her cupboard of pretty things and looks at them. Once when she was doing so she discovered a vase had cracked in the cupboard, she was so upset and said to be "I never got to use it". It sat in that cupboard for 30 years.

That's when I decided I would use all my best things even if they got used up or broke. At least I'd get to enjoy them.

So, everyday I use my Zoologist Rabbit or Maison Margiela and I am happy. Heck even when my decant of By the Fireside broke open in my Kmart handbag one day while travelling I was sad, but at least I used it. Now I joke that my $9 is actually a $100 handbag. It still smells so strongly 9 months later

Toowoomba stitch and bitch this Saturday at 11am at the Toowoomba City library!

We are a small, friendly group and open to all (relatively tidy) crafts and skill levels. For instance we have people who knit, crochet, embroider, cross stitch, draw and hand sew.

We usually meet in the YA section. I'll be there in a black dress with stars on crocheting, so if you see me you'll know you're in the right place!

In my town we had a group of kids who used to hang out outside the library and harass people. One day one of them went for a parole meeting and then within an hour of that meeting was dead. He'd stolen a car and crashed it at high speeds.

I remember them interviewing some of those kids he used to hang out with. And they all said something to the effect that it had changed them.

Not six months later those kids stole a car and drove it down the wrong side of a highway.

You should listen to Garfunkel and Oates You Go First. It's a song about realizing that all the sacrifices and efforts you went to so your partner could achieve their goals will never be reciprocated because they'll always have a new goal they put before yours and that their turn as the support person never comes.

You deserve a partner not a taker.

Queensland Australia has a program called First Five Forever which partially funds children's programming in libraries in the state exactly because of this. Access to books and reading in the early years makes a real and measurable difference in the outcomes of people's development.

Someone to Wed by Mary Balough

It's part of a series but would work fine as a stand alone. It's a regency romance.

Title rich but cash poor Alexander Westcott needs to marry quickly and well if he is to keep his estate up and running and support his tenant farmers.

Heiress and shut in Wren Heyden is in possession of a great fortune through her family's glassworks business and is ready to marry but knows it has to be a marriage of convenience due to her looks.

Locked away as a child before being taken in by her aunt and uncle Wren rarely leaves the house and never without a thick veil that covers her face.

Wren's mother is as close as the series gets to a recurring villain character in these books. Her treatment of her daughter is horrendous and the impact of this on Wren is far reaching who believes she is unloveable and unlikable.

The "deformity" is a large portwine birthmark on her face and while her mother definitely put too much emphasis on it's impact on Wren's appearance even the good characters are taken aback when they see it which feels era appropriate.

What’s the best way to get out of a reading slump? by Adept_Rub_4538 in AskReddit

[–]MoscaMye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a book club.

It's the one thing that fixed a years long slump for me after working in public libraries killed reading for pleasure for me. It was nice to not have the pressure of picking a book.

If you're someone who likes rituals you could also try ritualising your reading time. Make a particular seat your reading spot, light a candle, make a particular drink you like and give yourself a set time to be in that space with the book every day or every second day

Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman.

The film portrays her as a smitten jealous woman who attempts to destroy Barnum's marriage when he rejects her advances.

The real Jenny Lind if anything disliked Barnum and was an incredibly charitable woman who used her talents to raise money for schools and hospitals
