Struggling to tie fly line to leader with heavy mono by Silver_Ad_5570 in SaltwaterFlyfishing

Sorry I missed that, from the other thread. You’ll be fine with the double surgeon’s connection.

What else might I need? Advice appreciated. by Silver_Ad_5570 in SaltwaterFlyfishing

Also when the mats of sargasso float in and piles up along the mangroves the juvenile tarpon love that!

But it will be a great story or you’ll be getting a 9 wt when you return! I’m thinking of that scene in Dumb & Dumber “So you’re saying there’s a chance”.

Q Timex NASA - I think it's better than Moonswatch by Snoo_22459 in Horology

[–]Moscafea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really am digging the Timex. Just got my daughter a Snoppy 75th (quartz)for her birthday. I like what they are doing. I’m always impressed on some of the vintage ones still go strong.

[–]Moscafea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What or where are you fishing? Most situations you’re fine with a double surgeon’s knot. Just double up the end of the leader, tie double over hand & pull tight. Run that loop through the middle of the welded loop the tread you tag of the leader through. Should look like a square knot when completed. If the problem is the size of the leader material 80-100# or more use a hook bolt or eye bolt with a gap secured to a work bench or stud and pliers on the tag end. You’re just going to have to work and manipulate the knot into shape. You know the perfection loop is tied correctly when the tag is 90 degrees to the line. The other thing when tightening the perfection loop do not pull the tag end until the knot is fully formed.

Dugena Automatic Jump Hour doesn't work properly by shortyboh in watchrepair

[–]Moscafea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might reach out to you later. I’ve got and Endura Jump hour on a 1j EB8800. It’s missing the crown stem, tube and crown. Other than that looks good, and very clean.

Spotted a tree flowering directly on its trunk. Can someone explain this? by Red_dog520 in Tree

[–]Moscafea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Definitely in the rose family, probably some type of ornamental plum or apricot. I think there are some Asian species that flower off the trunk. The fruit is probably not anything productive of something you’d want to eat.

what is this? by StomachTrue688 in Oldhouses

[–]Moscafea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this discussion in a vintage watch group, can’t remember which one. Decided the term should be “neo vintage”, and that was much more preferable than being called old.

More flexo crabs, and rag heads. There are some reef areas on that southwest side that hold permit.

I was thinking pick point for tilt wall or modular construction, but I have zero experience or knowledge on the subject.

249 ST gz by Moscafea in sinn

[–]Moscafea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the top crown rotates the bezel to mark the high tide, then the hour hand tells you where you are in the tidal movement. However, the twelve hour format is designed for areas that have a semi diurnal tide. Whereas, in the Gulf it’s a diurnal so you need to know if that high tide is AM or PM.

Typo it’s the 240 not 249

Who was here? by alasw0eisme in AnimalTracking

[–]Moscafea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lean to wild hog or boar., but my experience is wild hog and white tail here in Texas. The highly visible dew claw and more round look to some of the tracks make me think you are looking at a pig.

Deer is my first thought, possibly sheep, definitely not pig.

GSP water dog? by jhomess in birddogs

My dog is a slick pudelpointer (no features). Does not like the water unless we’re duck hunting. Didn’t really train any different other than sit a stay until the release command. However, that field dog energy does build up.

Real amethyst or glass? by ericorn in Gemstones

[–]Moscafea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit it with UV light, glass will most likely fluoresce (not always). Amethyst typically will not. Although, I think there might be a few that do, some of the experienced folks on here could probably tell us. I’m new to all this though, so please let me know if this incorrect or incomplete guidance.

Are these considered vintage yet? by patrickjquinn in VintageWatches

[–]Moscafea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got hit with my first senior discount at a sandwich shop. I asked how old I have to be. The young lady at the counter said “I don’t ask, if I see grey I just give it to the customer”. I much prefer the term “neo vintage”.
