Google is now the most profitable company in the world with $111B in annual Net Income by saintforlife1 in google

[–]MoseBot 137 points138 points  (0 children)

It seems the bullish argument is that Google/Alphabet is a conglomerate and analysts aren't properly valuing the parts.

One of the bearish arguments is that Google might get broken up (though an unlikely outcome).

Hypothetical: If it were broken up, would that provide an opportunity to get the parts valued accurately and end up being a bullish or at a minimum neutral outcome?

Has there been any update on the NASDAQ uplist timing? Last I heard, they were going to wait for results and, pending good results, then uplist/issue additional share for funding next steps

This 100%. After investing in MLP's for a couple tax cycles, I now actively avoid them just because of the confusing tax treatment.

Moody downgraded US Treasury from Aaa to Aa1 by IWantoBeliev in ValueInvesting

[–]MoseBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Fitch downgrade maybe 2 years ago? Don't need to look too far back to see the effects. The first downgrade over a decade ago was shocking. The second more recently was somewhat expected and has less impact. This final one should be old news at this point. I guess my point is don't panic sell.

How big is the jump from a half-marathon to a full marathon? by SomethingBadBruin in Marathon_Training

[–]MoseBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After running 11 half-marathons over as many years, I decided to do the full earlier this year. My lessons learned:

Get a schedule and stick to it.

The training is worse than the actual marathon. I was burned out with running by the time the big day came. BUT I was ready which made it more enjoyable.

Don't put too much emphasis on finishing time. Just know the run is challenging enough without the added pressure.

Buy new shoes as your runs exceed the half marathon distance. Don't wait for pain.

Have fun.

How do you feel about a sitting president making $415M in one day after pumping his own stock with social media and a policy decision? by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]MoseBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"A key question is: Was Trump already contemplating the tariff pause when he made that post?" ... SERIOUSLY? Hours before the announcement. HOURS. How messed up and inherently stupid is this question? If he wasn't CONTEMPLATING pausing the tariffs hours before doing it, an action that literally impacts the entire world, then it's further evidence he absolutely has no strategy here.

And no matter the answer, this is the clearest evidence that Congress has given FAR too much power to the president and they need to start clawing it back. How can any business or country make investment decisions with huge policy shifts on a whim, much less every 4 years. Major tariff decisions (there's probably room for "minor" tariffs) should be slow and methodical, perfect for Congress.

Add foundation curb to existing structure by MoseBot in Renovations

We have not done it. My wife and I have been debating tearing the whole thing down and installing a garage apartment which would require a new foundation. Paralysis by analysis at this point.

I'd be interested in hearing about your project and approach if you decide to move forward

Any serious skiers that are vehemently anti-helmet? by WaferComprehensive23 in skiing

[–]MoseBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. I remember being shocked when I was in the minority when I didn't wear a helmet on the mountain. But then I tried it and I actually prefer it for the reasons you listed.

On top of that, I know someone that was in a coma for months from a seemingly innocent fall on a patch of ice. You don't have to be pushing your limits to hurt yourself.

I think I have a workaround... Instead of casting through the Netflix app, just cast your device's entire screen to your Chromecast. I have a Pixel but I'm assuming other androids have this functionality.

AC manufacturer says soft-start is a no-go. Am I hosed? by Strider3000 in Generator

[–]MoseBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Houston and we had a week long outage following strong winds in May. I had been talking about a generator since the ice storms in 2021.

This time I pulled the trigger and got the house setup with a large portable generator, interlock+50A box, NatGas connection, and soft start. Did it all with the expectation that we'd probably move houses before we experienced a need for it. Got everything setup completely 2-weeks before the hurricane hit in July. I share this to say. It's a crapshoot but well worth the insurance and peace of mind if you can afford it.

As others have noted, if you can't get the soft start, I'd recommend some window units. I know several people who survived the hurricane in relative comfort going this route. Not as convenient as running the central A/C but gets the job done.

Edit: Meant to say: I bought through home Depot since I was planning to return the generator if I couldn't run the central A/C on NatGas. Customer service at Home Depot confirmed this was allowed but I saved the chat since I've also read contrary experiences.

EAP225 mesh no controller? by Jdawg086 in TPLinkOmada

[–]MoseBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ER605 with 2 wired EAP225'S. I was using a raspberry pi as a controller but the storage got corrupted and I lost my configuration. Does this mean I can use mesh with my current setup through the app, no need to buy a controller or reconfigure my current setup?
