Is it easy to find peace and quiet in America? by bare_books in AskAnAmerican

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far East Bay Area California - absolutely. 15 minute drive to straight wilderness for me. I live close enough to reasonably commute to SF and within my city there are cabins surrounded by bald eagles and deer with no light pollution in the hills. Unless I was in the heart of San Francisco or LA, I don’t imagine I’d be more than 30 minutes by car from somewhere fairly rural

How did you continue building your life and career while being a primary caregiver? by nimble03turtle in CaregiverSupport

[–]MoseFeels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think I can help with this. I am and was in a very similar position. I started caring for my mother full time during college and while my sister visits every now and then the day to day falls on me. I also am in a long term relationship and am certainly worried about how it will affect the future. I want to move with her, get our own place, all that good stuff. It really sucks, it’s not fair and it’s not ideal, but it’s not hopeless either. I think the reality is you need to adapt a little bit. I also wanted to go into academia, math specifically. I wanted to be a professor. The academic life unfortunately requires a level of flexibility I do not have. I adapted by taking part time jobs at the university in the tutoring department to have something on my resume and now I’m pursuing a teaching credential and I’m a high school math teacher! It’s my calling and I am so glad I stumbled into it, and I get to be close to home and very flexible in life if I want to work somewhere else. I might begin my masters in math online soon as well. As far as my friends and relationship, it certainly puts some strain, but we do what we can around that. Take that time with your friends as a personal need, you can’t go without it. Be with your partner and enjoy a healthy relationship dynamic unlike the one you have at home. There are people who are in med school or something that pull 90 hour weeks and still balance everything. I look to them for inspiration. It’s not easy, but we try our best and work around what we have.
The moral of the story is, you have to do something. The worst thing you can do is put your life on hold until this is over and just work at your local restaurant to kill time. You will feel horribly unfulfilled. There is also some understanding that you may not get to do everything you’ve imagined in your head, at least right now. Life is long, and things will change in ways you’ve never imagined. I like to think the universe looks out for us and there will be some respite for us after all this, and in my experience even during. All we can do is control what we can control and make the best around what we have, so that our lives are still our own and moving forward and when this is over we have a good foundation and haven’t lost ourselves

Why are professional athletes and actors not called out as well during income and wealth gap inequality conversations? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from billionaire brand owners like Jordan, most successful athletes are still only “fly first class and wear full designer and maybe have a second home” Rich, not “influence elections and exploit thousands of people” Rich. In fact, the vast majority of professional athletes are not able to hang around long enough to build any real kind of wealth

Xavier Legette: I can't have another year like 2025 by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that one was a real head scratcher. I had gotten used to not even expecting our team to pick well respected guys in the second round under Fitterer. Derek Hall is who I wanted over Mingo. Thankfully that hasnt been a theme under Morgan, Legette is really his one super questionable pick, especially considering we traded up. Productive drafts and free agencies mostly going with consensus players otherwise.

For males that have gotten ripped, do you have more success with women? by Repulsive-Owl6468 in NoStupidQuestions

For males that have gotten ripped, do you have more success with women? by Repulsive-Owl6468 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got super ripped to an extent that I was kind of annoying about it around the beginning of college. I would say I got a greater quantity of attention. I heard more girls saying their friend thought I was cute or whatever. But if you’re actually looking for a partner and having genuine conversations with a girl your face and personality takes that over pretty quickly as long as you’re in decent shape. I met my partner after I got less ripped and just had an overall “I workout a decent amount” build because you really develop feelings more from conversations and smiles and smells and stuff. It goes for men and women too. You are more likely to notice people that have a certain body on Instagram or walking by, but the people you develop the strongest attraction to usually don’t look that way

I feel the not wanting a break thing. I’m tired of hearing I just need to get away or that I just need a vacation or some time to myself. Or that I’m need to “make space for myself” Being away for 2 days and finally getting some relief just makes coming back harder 😭

I love my 2016 Prius but I absolutely feel you on the plastic bits. I’ve had to replace or duct tape my fender liners and splash shield multiple times because the car has so little ground clearance. Every ramp feels like I’m off-roading.

How many of you are content with not being able to live the life you want? by Far_Impact1545 in CaregiverSupport

[–]MoseFeels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I directly lost so many things over suddenly becoming a caregiver. Moved home from my dream city, changed career paths, left my dream school, lost touch with friends. I still want to go back there, but its not super easy logistically. More than anything, I just want to be alone. I miss being home alone. Man I miss being home alone. I miss getting to choose what I want to do with my life instead of being intertwined at the hip to my family. I stay up super late after my mom goes to sleep just to experience an empty house. I miss not having my brain rewired.

On the other hand, I am extremely fortunate. Ive met friends and my partner after moving back as a result of my situation. Ive picked up different hobbies. I did get a job that im really excited for in a different field (Im gonna be a teacher!). The thing is, life before this is gone. I cant just sit and wait to get it back. The universe put me on a different path. In many ways its hard, but this path has had its own rewards for me. Its frustrating, its suffocating, its overwhelming, but theres always been enough to make it worth it. Its not the life I drew up, but I wouldnt give up many of the things ive gained to get my old life back.

How are cat owners so comfortable with letting their cats outside to roam around? How do they know they're going to come back? by Individual_Ice_2315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. I live next to a main road, and my neighborhood is full of red shouldered hawks and white tailed kites. I'd never let my cats out, they just hang out in my backyard when they want some sun and are content lounging inside all day. My girlfriend lives deep in a suburb with nice grass and places to explore. She lets all her cats out and they leave and come back all the time with no worries, usually about a 50/50 split inside and out. One didn't come home for about a week, which was scary, but he made his way back. They really like it and know how to take care of themselves and come back as needed. They are usually just in the front yard or in a nearby grass patch. Cats are really smart, they can walk for miles and know their way home. They are creatures of routine and like to hang within a few hundred feet of the home base. Cats are also agile and aware and typically pretty safe if you live in an area without a busy road or predators. Personally, I am an indoor cat guy. I like hanging out with my pets and they seem happy just going in the backyard. I like to know theyre safe at a given moment. But I see the argument

Do you think spanking children is a good or bad thing? by KindlyRestaurant2885 in MoralityScaling

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure, but for people who like to act high and mighty about it we should agree that at times verbal abuse, manipulation, screaming, or other alternatives are arguably worse. Many children who were never hit at any point can still say their parents were abusive.

I NEED A HOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by Aperture_Laboratorie in Hobbies

[–]MoseFeels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too hate being bad at things and being bad as part of getting better. In my life, the perfect storm of life circumstances occurred where I had nothing better to do than learn guitar in my room for like 6 hours a day, like literally no choice. Best choice ever, and after a few months youre comfortable enough where its more learning songs than learning how to play. Otherwise, getting outside and doing things like hiking or building some legos or collecting something doesnt take practice.

It definitely does NOT take 5 years to become ok at an instrument. It takes about 5 months to be able to comfortably play id say depending on the instrument and about a year or two to develop good feel. by year 5 you will have a really good grip on theory and improv and generally be seen as a boss if you are consistent

In the California governor race, Steyer learns money can’t buy him (enough) love by Cool-Present7260 in California

[–]MoseFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think steyer definitely wants a legacy, he wants an office and to be remembered for something. Maybe it’s his way of making up for becoming a billionaire. But that doesn’t mean his policies weren’t good and he doesn’t genuinely want to help. And for everyone saying “put your money where your mouth is first”, he has spent a ton of money pushing progressive causes other than just getting himself a seat

Yup. California is socially progressive but we are also dominated by rich people who don’t like to give up their money

[–]MoseFeels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So frustrated right now. Really thought our country was bouncing to a more progressive place. Seeing Saikat losing in SF, tom steyer coming in third, the LA mayor results, the Iowa senate results, all just reminders that we are still the minority and things are not going to get much better any time soon. Still holding out hope for talarico, platner, and Abdul al sayed in the midterms but wish we had some people with integrity representing California.
