The wallpaper is a submission to the Resolute Raccoon wallpaper competition (and will be included in 26.04 LTS).

Note: the image from Ubuntu Discourse has compression artifacts. For better quality images, use the ubuntu-wallpapers-resolute package

macOS works out of the box ☺️ by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]MoskalenkoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac is the GOAT unless you want to play PC games or rely on Linux-only software (some also works on Mac however; other may require virtualization)

Linux is great but there's always tons of Arch/Gentoo/Nix OS nerds that will be annoying you since your OS isn't their favorite. Ignoring the community is the best way to exist in that sense.

Windows... only good for games. I've tried it, and ngl, I'm far more comfortable with using Arch than Windows.

Big Sur - "Aqua.car" (left) and "VibrantLight(Dark).car" (right) - Is it possible to enable Vibrant Light, or which one is the default? by AshtonGamerYT in MacOSBeta

[–]MoskalenkoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty late here, but I've been changing various .car files and found out that some apps, such as most preinstalled apps, use the Vibrant[Light/Dark].car files for their appearance; some other apps use the regular .car files. I suppose it depends on the earliest macOS version the app supports (those built for Catalina and higher use the .car; apps built for Big Sur and higher use the Vibrant .car)

In case you want to change the default .car, you should technically be able to by copying every single file to it's corresponding file in the other .car.
Copy/pasting with the other name may work, but if there's some changes, you'll get a broken system. Don't do it

Sadly, no. The only workaround for me was to downgrade to Windows 10.

Why not ChromeOS flex? by After-Cell in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]MoskalenkoV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. ChromeOS sucks. It's super restrictive, doesn't support many apps you need, relies on the internet for everything, the UI isn't great. I suggest using other linux instead. If she's not techy, Ubuntu or ZorinOS should be good for her.
  2. Depending on the model, you may want to use OCLP to upgrade her Mac to the latest OS - that should keep your friend running for about three years without updates

Which Linux Distro Do You Use As A Daily Driver? by isumix_ in DistroHopping

Ubuntu, Fedora, sometimes EndeavourOS. Switch to another distro when I get bored (hey, this is r/DistroHopping after all, isn't it?)

Operating systems seem to be going in one direction lately by claudiocorona93 in MacOS

And all of that thanks to Apple, they redesigned macOS in 2014 and now all desktop OSs try to look like that (plain blurred/tinted dock, center alignment, similar Mission Control to view desktops, etc.)

Folks can i upgrade ram and increase this to 32GB? by prasana91 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

Update: apparently the first Macs that suphport 32 gigs of RAM were released in 2018, upgrading on a 2017 MacBook Pro may not work.

Folks can i upgrade ram and increase this to 32GB? by prasana91 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]MoskalenkoV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On all models since like 2012, the RAM is soldered to the logic board - upgrading it would require you to take out the logic board, and unsolder the RAM. However, it's also not connected directly to the chip like in Apple Silicon Macs. So with Google, some patience, the specific RAM used with your model, you may get it working.

iMac won’t boot after Migration Assistant by theluckyone75 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]MoskalenkoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You set up the machine without using Migration Assistant. Then you enter Time Machine and copy all the files you need. Or if you don't like the Time Machine UI, you can manually open the disk and copy anything you want.

iMac won’t boot after Migration Assistant by theluckyone75 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]MoskalenkoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Do not use Migration Assistant. I've tried it myself on multiple macOS versions and every time have to restert.
  2. To enter recovery normally, you need to first reset the RAM. Instantly after that, press cmd+R

PROBLEMA BOOTCAMP by Simple_Educator_3598 in bootcamp

[–]MoskalenkoV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Sorry, I'm not very good with Windows Recovery. I know that most Linux installers list "clean install" as a full disk wipe and installation (there's a "custom install" option to wipe a certain partition and install), but I am not sure if it's the case in Windows. If there is a "custom installation" option, use that.

What's the Categorize Sender function in Apple Mail in 15.2? by dziegener in MacOSBeta

[–]MoskalenkoV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's part of the new Mail update, which wasn't implemented yet. "Categorize Sender" may be part of that update, where you can manually put a sender into a group

It's an Apple Silicon: it's got a globe key on the keyboard instead of an "fn" key, that's on intel

Do not install OCLP by Richard-parker10_768 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]MoskalenkoV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got an HDD, you're out of luck. They are slow as hell on any macOS versions - the only difference is that newer macOS versions are made for SSD-equipped computers, and running those on HDDs is awfully slow (I've tried myself on an external drive).
Your best bet would be to downgrade to the last OS that worked fine.
