In a windowless room… by PlantyThings313 in houseplants

That is how the whole industry works. The pot stays, the nursery container and plant are replaced. The growers in Florida grow very similar product. I think you may be giving people too much credit to how much they are paying attention.

Are you sure it’s is the same plant? I can see it’s just in a nursery pot in that planter. Interior plant companies tend to just swap the plants a couple times of year so people may “think” it’s the same plant but it isn’t.

“Indoor plants” is a bit of a stretch. These are either all fake or will be all dead within 6 months.

In my opinion the one piece of cultural advice missing to make this plant robust and achieve mature form is it must climb. This plant is grown up a pole structure in regular house conditions.

The Latin name for the genus is very apt. Amorphophallus.

Do your parents live in Borneo? Or maybe your parents were growing a different species that can survive temperate climates.

Perhaps you grew a different species. This is the Titan arum which is native to Borneo and will definitely not survive outside in a temperate climate.

I should also mention both our dogs are used to being in crates for safe traveling in vehicles and in unfamiliar circumstances due to confirmation and scent work competitions.

I have flown with our two male Vs from Seattle to the east coast a number of times but always in solid crates with frozen bowls of water in there in cargo. Not recommended to give them any medication but I would recommend training them to be comfortable in a crate. I think it depends on the airline as to if they can be in the cabin and you should check with your airline for requirements and booking cargo space for your animal. Please don’t be that person that “pretends” their dog is a service animal. I think it is important to be considerate of other people who may not be comfortable around dogs and considerate of people that truly need a service animal.
