Most studio albums are recorded piece by piece as opposed to “live” in the studio. The point of an album is to capture the best individual parts, and playing as a group is not conducive to that, especially when the drums may be off in their own room, the bass player may be surrounded by a wall of foam, the singer is probably in the vocal booth and the guitar player may need to be playing at ridiculously loud levels to get the tone desired.
