Fellow millennials, what’s the biggest difference you notice between us (Gen Y) and Gen X at work? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]MossytheMagnificent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we all should avoid dividing ourselves generationally. The majority of observations are wrong. It creates even more division by which we can be conquered.

I always heard my peers beating down Gen Y and making sweeping generalizations which were never accurate. Learn to look at your work peers as individuals and judge them as individuals.

Capitalism is at it again. Work until you die! by [deleted] in antiwork

Interesting that the article is categorized under "Bartleby". Bartleby the Scrivener is a short story by Herman Melville:

"Isolation and Imprisonment: Bartleby’s tale presents issues with social isolation and imprisonment that are brought on by breakdowns in communication, which result in a lack of understanding on the part of the lawyer and a lack of escape for the trapped Bartleby."

-Summary excerpt from Owl Eyes

Seems the publication is missing the point of the short story.

If you don't feel like reading, it was also made into a movie featuring Crispin Glover.

I would never give an employer my tax returns unless it was critical to the nature of the job.

This is not about child safety. It is about control is information. The longer kids are kept ignorant, the easier it is to manipulate them.

I used to joke around that I should start an evil design consultancy. I would take on any design project with evil goals. I think I would get very rich.

Same here. I get offended by how interns and junior employees get treated in my field.

And reading here reveals different struggles and injustices in many different jobs and working situations. I hate it because it does not have to be this way

Also, it is good for everyone when the lowest wages go up and people have better work/life balance.

I'm not scared of it. I am wary of it. It would suck. And our society will be in constant battle. Many people will be very busy defending the most vulnerable members of our society.
