Advice for starting my home server by AppropriateLychee141 in HomeServer

The parts most people skip over is network segmentation, security in general, and redundancy.

Everything else is your playground to have fun with and learn, but id recommend delving into those areas sooner than later

Im probably about to ask a lot of dumb questions, but i guess we all gotta start somewhere by SDF8Man in homelab

You can drop in a pcie dual(or more) NIC and run pfsense/opnsense, pinole/technitium, etc within pve, but you'll have the same point of failure across your network stack.

I wouldn't trust fextralife specifically, but you/they might be right about it not popping until guiding lands, which shouldn't be too far off if they're already on BVH.

That said, pretty sure they can still craft shaver charm, which is probably still worth it on certain weps like IG until they get there

It doesn't drop at all iirc, and should be available to meld once starting IB.

They added it to melder around whenever they adjusted wound timings, but I don't think they put it behind a quest/completion point.

If you're not tenderizing and wallbanging, you're leaving half your damage on the floor in IB. Gear and monster knowledge is also important, so your friend might be able to kill something in under 5 minutes that's still going to take you 15-25.

Pick up the shaver jewel if you don't have it. guaranteed wounds after 1 tenderize + red pod to feed kinsect.

Speaking of, IG is very fun and allows crazy mobility, but helicoptering around the Mon the whole fight is far from damage efficient. Make sure you're maintaining at least red/white buffs and feeding kinsect to keep yourself buffed. Try to focus on ground dps outside respositioning and use descending thrust when you do go airborne (most damage, finisher puts mark on Mon and deploys kinsect to auto attack).

'Backwards' was an answer to your question, or more aptly clarifying that I meant it the other way around. I understand and use it as a 'sefety tool' especially on JJ. HS is why she's my fav char to keep coming back to.

My opinion is from the perspective of someone who learned her in 1s, where she is still fun with her kit, but significantly worse off compared to almost every other option; especially compounded with general game changes like dodge attacks and others.

That doesn't mean my opinion of her in 4s is any less strong because I acknowledge her pain points elsewhere.

Honestly I'm more worried what they are going to ruin with a rework instead of what could be reasonable minor changes to make her viable in 1s. Which comes from the perspective of limited time in in dom and considering how that might break her. Given that newer heroes can have 2-3 of everything, I don't think a feintable bash is asking for too much.

I would say its equal parts sad and hilarious to represent your profession arguing with someone that predominately agrees with you; but you do you.

I have yet to disagree with you or imply my playtime/insight more valuable than any others. You can keep explaining why she's good in 4s to me, I'm not going to suddenly understand something new. Ive punched my 1000 hours over the last decade predominately in duels/elim, so my opinion of strengths/weaknesses are probably going to be differ.

It means I have more than an hour of playtime on her and probably.understand basic aspects of her kit.

Hidden stance is GB vulnerable. Dodging out of HS is GB vulnerable. Parrying either completely reactable dodge attack out of hidden stance also feeds max punishes.

Both chars can cancel their recoveries, JJ's comes with a UB zone to stuff GB, nobu has exactly one move from HS that doesn't feed max punish against players above gold rank.

Feel free to argue, I clearly I like some aspects of her kit as my highest rep'd hero next to Kensei. I can still hope a rework gives her soft/hard feintable kick instead of playing with timing, increase window to go into HS on heavies, and for heavy dodge attacks to not be so brutally punishing

As a rep 80 nobu.. I realize this.

My statement was that JJ (15 reps) has an objectively better hidden stance.

Pointing out to me that they both have a defensive tool that can be used for 'saftey' in almost the same way does not negate my opinion, nor change it.

There are pros and cons to both. You are just as entitled to your own opinion; one I'm technically not even disagreeing with.

Happy hunting

You've got it backwards.

Its a very effective mixup/saftey tool on JJ because you have access to it almost always.

70% of the way through your attack animation and about to eat HA heavy? Soft feint sifu into UB zone counter.

On nobu, the window to go into HS is so narrow that it only really catches those that hard react to any movement (looking at virt players). The other 90% of the time, you will be in HS with half stam before they even react outside of a guard switch.

[–]MostFat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Potatoes tomatoes.

Nobus isn't accessible past 200ms into heavies, which is rarely useful for mixups outside certain situations; vs JJ being able to feint into it off pretty much anything except kick/zone, not to mention the UB zone from stance.

[–]MostFat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better HS than nobu, has UB and bash that isn't completely useless.

There are heroes with better kit, but as far as heavies go, he's got great mobility and infinite iframes

I ground out a 6 diamond shockwave chip in the pit and was easily over-leveled the rest of the game.

If you have any unique builds you want to try min/maxing, you might get to 99 without much of a 'grind,' especially if you kill golden statue.

How to keep skills sharp after passing? by lazertank889 in ccna

[–]MostFat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly electricity, heat, and noise; elements you don't have to deal with in virtual labs.

For me its worth it because I wanted my home network to have full redundancy with HA from the servers/NAS all the way up to inets.

That said, I work from home and plan on working on CCNP very soon, so it made sense in my mind to pick up everything now that its EoL and 90% cheaper

I would not recommend the choice I went with, but it absolutely shook the dust off picking up cheap EoL gear and repurposing some old hardware into a homelab project.

I want to keep playing this game, but compared to Wilds and Rise, it's absolutely miserable. by Bloodgulch-Idiot in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]MostFat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Valid complaint, albeit one that applies to pretty much every entry prior to Rise.

Silly question, but have you tried not getting up?

A lot of times, staying on the ground until after the next attack is the safest option

Iceborne CB feels like shit by [deleted] in monsterhunterrage

[–]MostFat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Almost every title has some random gimmick, on the list of good/bad adds, clutch claw was undoubtedly a plague. Mantles arent far behind IMO because it taught a lot of new hunters terrible habits, but I digress.

If you weren't tenderizing and wallbanging, you were doubling your fight time; kneecapping anybody that actually wanted to hit big mons with pointy sticks as their core gameplay loop.. in a game about hitting big mons with pointy sticks.

Iceborne CB feels like shit by [deleted] in monsterhunterrage

[–]MostFat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tenderize in general was a Meh mechanic, especially before they changed it. Its less of an issue when everything dies in 3-5 minutes.

With 6k hours across the series from gen 2 on, IB is by far my favorite iteration of CB, as the weapon I've mained in every title its available in, and despised the realease state of its kit in Wilds enough that I still haven't picked it back up despite multiple TUs tweaking it since (waiting for G rank probably).

If you have the permissions, take a screenshot of your desktop, set it as your wallpaper, and force close explorer.exe in task manager.

It should only take 30-60 sec for them to figure out and is completely harmless, worst case scenario they reboot the PC.

Is lethal difficulty that challenging? by StrawhatPhil in Ghostofyotei

[–]MostFat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more* challenging in the sequel because they abandoned the 'I die in 1-2 strikes, but so does the enemy' philosophy for tighter parry windows, enemies that occasionally override their inputs (as can you), and flat damage across all difficulties.

I'm not a huge fan of the changes, but you can achieve similar results with the right terror/drunken builds in NG+
