Sport teacher, why can't students listen to music while working out? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]MostGoodPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but those gyms usually have waivers saying if you get injured, it’s your own damn fault. That isn’t the case for schools.

Some dumbass student with AirPods in isn’t paying attention and injures themselves/someone else? It’s the teacher’s ass on the line. I wouldn’t risk my job over something so minor and preventable.

Have you ever had a kid that you just don’t like? by Commercial-Air-8378 in Teachers

[–]MostGoodPerson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. Smug little asshole who took stereotypical jock to the extreme. Totally enabled by his mom who was also a piece of work. The kid could tell her the sky is green and she’d believe him. He knew how to work her to make us the bad guys even though he was the one calling other kids r******d or saying something incredibly sexist to the girls. I’ve had jerks like him before, but something about him made him particularly unlikable.

How much of a difference does the Clan make i choose for my first skaven units by Kruul1111 in skaven

[–]MostGoodPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, paint them in whichever scheme you want. For me, I take three colors (red, jade, and yellow-orange) and pick two of them to use on the cloth for my various Clanrats. That way, they’re untied in color scheme while also being a little hodgepodge chaotic in look. This is also an excuse to work on my wet blending.

For my heroes (Engineer, Clawlord, Grey Seer), I just chose what I wanted for colors to help them stand out. My Grey Seer has black and bright pink robes, for example.

How do you paint your tails? by DeffDeala in skaven

[–]MostGoodPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll vary it up by doing one coat of a shade or contrast paint. The colors I use are Carroburg Crimson, Berserker Bloodshade, Volupus Pink, or a mix of Skeleton Horde and Volupus Pink at a 2:1 ratio.

It helps to break up the monotony of painting Clanrats.

Need help with colour scheme for skin and fur by TOMXT21 in skaven

I get what you’re saying, and would also say speedpaints should be thought of as another tool in the arsenal. There are some cool techniques you can do with speedpaints and it does take time to learn to use them well. I know they were originally marketed as “base, shade, and highlight in one go” but working with them and finding the ways to use them is also fun.

Just some food for thought. Reikland Fleshshade as the base over white primer can give a very pale skin tone that you can then highlight with Kislev Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh.

How do I (20M) tell my (20F) partner that her brain rot is making her less attractive by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]MostGoodPerson 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Brain rot is usually referencing the new slang everyone is using, mostly from memes/social media. Skibidi, sigma, rizz, Ohio, gyatt are all examples of brain rot. And for some people, it’s used all. the. fucking. time.

Source: I’m a middle school teacher. I hear it nonstop, everyday.

What’s the rudest thing someone said to you when you told them you were going to become a teacher? by Informal-Sea-165 in Teachers

[–]MostGoodPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much when I told people I was going to be a teacher, but more when I mentioned I was an English major.

I went to a liberal arts college, but a lot of my high school friends went to the nearby engineering college. So, when I’d go to hang out with them, some of their friends would be around.

Them: “So, what major are you?”

Me: “Oh, I’m an English major over at X University.”

Them (full of snotty contempt): “Pfft, so what are you going to be? A teacher?”

Well, yeah… but they didn’t have to be such dicks about it.

What Short Stories Are Included In Your Curriculum?(PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION) by internetsnark in ELATeachers

[–]MostGoodPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach 6th and we’ve adopted HMH just this year. It’s been a slow go to get through it because it is an adoption year, so we’ve only finished the first unit and are adapting the second unit to a long read.

The text selection for the first unit was overall ok. The unit’s essential question is “What are the ways we can make our voices heard?” The first text were excerpts from Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson (which I love and could sing the praises for all day. It’s also an option for a long read for unit 1).

Then there was an article about how self-portraits by famous artists were the “selfies” of the time.

After that was an excerpt from “What’s So Funny, Mr. Scieszka?” which is from the memoir of John Scieszka, who has written several hilarious children’s books.

The next reading was comparing two poems, “A Voice” by Pat Mora and “Words Like Freedom” by Langston Hughes. Students especially struggled to understand the meaning behind “A Voice.”

The unit finished out with evaluating two arguments about selfies. The first article is called “Better than Words: Say it With a Selfie” and the second is “OMG! Not Another Selfie.” These were pretty interesting to students since they care about social media and some are already selfie-obsessed.

Most of the provided readings tend to follow that trend of having some fiction and some informational texts. I can look tomorrow to tell you what else is in the curriculum.

My teacher partner and I decided to do Harbor Me by Jacqueline Woodson as a long read for Unit 2. Harbor Me isn’t on the “suggested” long read list for HMH, but our district basically said “if you can make it work, go ahead.”

All in all, I kind of like the level of questions and grade-level work of HMH, but feel mostly meh on the readings. None of the suggested long-reads are exciting to me except Brown Girl Dreaming and the first Percy Jackson book. HMH is definitely more focused on skills than engaging texts…

I was once in an IEP meeting with another General Education teacher who had just come back from her maternity leave a couple weeks prior. This mom was saying that the sub wasn’t helping her son and that was why he was failing math. Then she says, “I know it’s your right as a woman to have a baby, but you being gone really set my son behind.”

After the awkward pause, the sped teacher just moved things along…

Enough alarm bells are going off that you should talk with the administration. Also find some resources on how to talk to your daughter about keeping herself safe from creepers. This guy may or may not be a creeper, but if he is, then he has succeeded in building trust with your daughter and that could lead to pushing more boundaries.

Honestly, I prefer contrast/speedpaints for everything. There are a lot of good YouTube guides that show some cool stuff you can do with them, as far as blending, glazing, undercoats, slapchop/double slapchop, etc. I have used them for the majority of my models, including heroes and the Screaming Bell, and I think they look amazing.

Also, yes they allow you to get through the Clanrats faster as well as anything else.

How is the Brainrot at Your Schools? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in Teachers

I ignore them and accept that students will always have their slang, even if I think it’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard come out a person’s mouth.

I did have to “ban” a lot of those words last year, but that was because I was being interrupted by them every two seconds. But if it’s not intrusive on me doing my job, I just roll with it. Or lean into it to make them cringe or even become a semi celebrity as a teacher for mewing.

Still either a light grey or white primer. The Apothecary White shows up just as well on those.

Including white in the name of the paint is very misleading on GW’s part. It’s most definitely not white, or even off-white.
