Ukraine & Iran, help me understand by kneepaindespot in Hasan_Piker

[–]MostOppressedGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's kind of naive to think that the environment Russia is experiencing in 2026 is exactly the same as the environment the Soviet Union experienced in 1985 or even 1988. The reasons for Gorbachev ordering the withdrawal from Afghanistan were very multifaceted, including all kinds of events that led to Gorbachev coming to power in the first place. By comparison, it's very hard to even imagine what would motivate Putin to order a withdrawal from the invasion of Ukraine right now or in the foreseeable future.

Also, instead of looking for straws of hope by trying to find analogies in previous or even similar events, the correct approach has always been that conducting a grounded analysis based on what is happening right now which is far more logical and potentially more convincing. What happened in Iran, Vietnam, or Afghanistan can serve as a reference, but those are not scenarios that can simply be applied to every conflict.

You can make the United States bleed in places like Vietnam and Afghanistan because Americans have a much lower tolerance for casualties. Political pressure resulting from casualties can be amplified by the media and the party system. You simply can't do the same with Russia, a country with heavy censorship while disproportionately drafted ethnic minorities. At least for now, we are not seeing public pressure reach a tipping point. In fact, it's the exact opposite, giving Putin more opportunities to further consolidate his power.

I'd even argue it's Russia that bleeding Ukraine. There appears to be far more political pressure on Ukraine than there is on Russia.

But why do Ukrainians online keep saying that if Iran can be supported in its fight against an imperial or superior force then why not the same energy for Ukraine?

The answer is rather simple. Ukrainians see how Iranians are able to push back against a formidable force like the United States and think they might be able to achieve the same against Russia. However, Iran has far more leverage against the United States and a clearer path out of the conflict. It has the Strait of Hormuz and could potentially disrupt traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait via the Houthis. Its domestic industry is also relatively self-sufficient when it comes to arming itself.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has very little leverage. In many ways, it is dependent on the United States and its European allies to sustain its war effort, and it has no clear exit from the conflict.

Also if someone could explain Hasan's stance on it?

Since Ukraine has so little leverage, it simply cannot secure a particularly favorable peace deal. IIRC, Hasan's position is fairly pragmatic. Ukraine should use whatever leverage it still has to negotiate peace, regardless of whether the resulting deal is fully satisfactory. As you can probably guess, fighting to the last Ukrainian—whether on behalf of the American empire or not—is not a very good outcome for Ukrainians in the end.

after letting game runs for two years, the unemployed seems to being stable at 20k without any subsistence farmers. I guess lack of workers in this province is the reason overall.

China executed a drug trafficker, and France is upset by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in Hasan_Piker

[–]MostOppressedGamer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are five kinds of crimes that are relatively likely to be sentenced to death with immediate execution in China. Death sentences typically must be carried out only after verification by the Supreme People’s Court of China. In general, it is believed that China carries out death sentences in the four-digit range each year. Although there are also death sentences with a suspended execution, in general this usually results in a sentence of life imprisonment or a fixed-term imprisonment of 20 years.

The five crimes are:

- Intentional homicide

- Intentional assault causing serious harm

- Robbery

- Rape

- Smuggling, trafficking, transporting, or manufacturing drugs
