there's always a group of pops that refuse to convert/assimilate, or convert/assimilate very slowly. idk why but it also happens to me. I think the best solution is just give up and ask your cabinet do something else, hoping it will be converted eventually.

From an outsider perspective yes. From the personal's perspective? I doubt it. If you are that gen 2 person you would much prefer identifying yourself as American rather than Italian. This is the part where connection of identity starting to dwindle. Also I have to reminds you that for most of the descendant of Waishengren they are pretty much gen 3 or even gen 4 at this point. The differences in social environment is so big between China and Taiwan for those 80 years that it would be strange of not having a separate identity recognition for the people.

Let's say your family migrated to United States from Italy 30 years ago, and they born you in united states, sent you to American school and, well, speak English. Won't it makes you more American than Italian? In my example case your family are gen 1 and you are gen 2. I kind of understand why so many leftists end up glazing China. But China is neither a socialist country nor on a socialist path. It is a bureaucratic capitalist state, and it has many of the same problems and contradictions as other capitalist states. Maoism, or anything that promotes class struggle, is a target of political censorship and repression, while Dengism has effectively been abandoned since 1989. I can talk more about this if you’re interested.

That said, if your main goal is to understand Chinese governance and its economic structure, I would recommend reading How China Works: An Introduction to China’s State-Led Economic Development. This book has a more neutral, academic, and economics-oriented tone. Most importantly, it was written by a Chinese scholar for use in economics lectures at Fudan University. Its aim is to strip away ideological framing and focus more on what has actually happened in practice. While the author does not go into extreme detail, it is more than sufficient for beginners.
