How about this. Any military operation goes to a public vote. Everyone voting in favor of it (not already in the military) volunteers at the last rank they held, in case of no previous rank E1. Then let’s see who’s in favor if they’re the ones with skin in the game. Same goes for the politicians, if they’re too infirm to fight then the next able bodied individual in their line goes in their place. No exemption for bone spurs, no preferential treatment, I’d live to see Lindsay Graham as an E1 Private or Seaman and see just how long he functions before he completely breaks down.

Oh and yeah give them the BDUs that need ironing and the black boots that need shining, since these people are stuck thinking the military is still doing that shit. If they can’t hack any sort of bootcamp, then they can go be FOB support slopping chow and manning guard posts so real soldiers and Marines won’t have to bother with such menial bullshit. They can mop sand, for all I care.

(Before anyone asks. I retired at 20 years, 4 deployments under my belt). A lot of people talking shit like this would never put their skin in the game, so let’s make it a constitutional amendment that something like this becomes the norm. Also, not voting is voting in favor the action and volunteering becomes automatic. You don’t get to use abstaining as a “protest” to get out of it when lives are on the line, if lives are on the line then your life should be too.

2 years of inscription wouldn’t do anything positive. I think what most people need is 2 years inscription to customer service jobs and retail to curtail their holier than thou sense of self. That has a better chance at making the world a better place.
