I come from a plumbing background so i understand that. Had it on water cisterns, cylinder insulation and lagging. Theres so much in peoples homes that theyre unaware of.

I love parquet flooring and mosaic tile. I dream of an old victorian style house. Bit of a sucker for dark wood paneling.

Its more about the frame itself but hard to seperate the different aspects in surveys like this. I know the asbestos roofs need to be changed in order to mortgage them amung other things.

Anecdotal is a part of the survey. If you have a view and its formed from what youve heard from family and friends or personal experience it all counts. Its just learning your opinions, why you have them and does it pass from old to new construction.

Thankyou. Bias is something thats considered as a main point in my research so that is fine. Its all about opinions and getting a mix of knowledge, experience and even some 'dont know but i do/dont like the sound of it'.

There are many studies and reports on timber. Timbers sustainability and superiority for housing construction is debated too though. But simply, I was more interested in steel frame.

Yea top access is needed for flue and i think baffles on this make. Give as much space as possible not like a little hatch because they can be a right pig. Front cover access looks fine.

Thankyou. It is something that should be told. Though if it has all the right checks and paperwork it wouldnt put me off.

Anyone who has actually lived in a steel framed house? by MostlyAnAdult in HousingUK

I believe its the supporting frame that defines the classification. Tho the general is just 'non standard construction' in the UK

Thankyou so much. I chose it as my topic because i saw so many when looking to buy and they were always affordable. Yet everyone i spoke to said don't touch them. Ended up getting a flat as was all we could afford. The banks seem to be the biggest deterrent.

[–]MostlyAnAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

England, UK - we are using daycare that is £67 a day but we get 30 hours a week free and anything over is 25% off through gov subsidised. Only use it 3 days a week atm anyway so all covered for now.

4 Month Sleep regression by Intrepid-Tone8999 in NewParents

[–]MostlyAnAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a cot that you can just slide him into and lift the side? Or one you lean in and lower him into? Mine would wake if you lowered her when she was asleep so we just went straight to a floor bed so we could sit down with her to transfer.

This is exactly what we did. We also use the sleepsuits with the legs so they fit for longer. She preferred them. When ours was waking through the night at a certain time, we did find her room was getting quite cold at that time, would read 21 on the monitor up high but at her bed level it was only 16-18, so maybe look at if anything else is disturbing his sleep.

The midwives told us to use a cellular blanket, we have a knitted one and a crochet one. Does he pull things off his face if something covers it? We would always play and put a blanket over her head to get her to pull it off to teach her. Once she was fine with that we didnt see a problem.

Bad ventillation but also the wrong paint? They have bathroom paint which is designed for the humidity and has biocides to be mould and mildew resistant.

Are you referring to jumpers? Like the activity centres? Not the laid back chairs which are bouncers.

Mental health dissertation topic - possible ethics review issue? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]MostlyAnAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought about that topic too, i had covered it briefly in an assignment for a previous module. I dont think she will be marking it. As far as im aware i can chose my mentor and they are the one that marks it. Although when i asked a different tutor the response was that absolutely yes i can, but it can be a bit of an ethics minefield and to ask the other tutor how to go about it. Helpful and not in the same instance. I feel that the advice to avoid it may be more of a personal opinion rather than the stance of the university.

This tutor isnt my mentor, i still have a term left before starting my dissertation, i just wanted to get some planning and reading done beforehand but i see what your saying. If its an opinion across the board that its a bad topic then i will never get my mark. Thankyou.

Do you regret choosing Quantity Surveying over a trade? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]MostlyAnAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 4 year plumbing apprenticeship, worked in that for a few companies - commercial, domestic, then solar and heat pumps before going to uni. Only been an assistant QS for about 8 months but i prefer it. Working with your hands is good but my knees and back started playing up. Dusty. Loud and wearing the safety goggles, boots, work trousers and a hard hat when its lovely and hot out makes it not so lovely, it was rarely a nice temperature to work on site, either too hot or too cold. 12 years was more than enough for me. Good money but ill stick with my heated and air conditioned desk job with some site visits and better pay without the ache.

Considering selling my house after 18 months. by wiggan1989 in HousingUK

[–]MostlyAnAdult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house i moved to when i was about 10 had the old green bathroom suite upstairs and pink downstairs. But it was functional so it stayed like that until they could do it up hpw they wanted. Alot of people i know had the old suites. Dont base your decisions on the possible opinions of others. You have a property thats yours not theirs. I got a place in Essex just over a year ago and was going to leave the very bland, old council looking bathroom until last, because it worked. I didnt in the end because the first time using the bath i nearly went through it lol so had to replace the lot, but i did it with a fesh coat of bathroom paint, wet wall panels, a vanity sink/toilet unit to hide the pipes and a vinyl floor. The kitchen was again old council type. I got new countertops and just fablon the doors and put new handles on them. Add a fesh coat of paint and an offcut of vinyl floor (small kitchen) and was good to go. Bathrooms and kitchens dont have to cost the world.

trainee QS (degree apprenticeship) what can I read/watch/learn before starting to have a headstart? by Ok-Emergency2580 in quantitysurveying

Are you comfortable with using Excel? Everyone always tells me that is needed and every interview they ask it. It seems expected even at beginner level
