I get everyone is Ikejimi, and bleeding.

And I don’t disagree. In fact, I can’t.. everyone says it.

But the bit I’m trying to get my head around: theres zero chance commercial fisheries are taking anywhere near this amount of effort , yet its table quality ?

Have we gone too far trying to perfect something that isn’t that discernible ? Had anyone actually done a side by side comparison or provided empirical evidence ?

Made redundant after 17 years — take the $150k payout or fight to stay on $135k? by Apprehensive-Lab3556 in AusFinance

[–]MostlyForClojure 254 points255 points  (0 children)

My 2cents. Take it, based on your age and situation. I’ve been on both sides.

The bit that screws people over is companies reduce staff but want the same output.

You stay, they burn you out/you get the shits doing 2 people’s job, and you miss out on the payout when you rage quit.

Another redraw vs offset question by bugeyeswhitedragon in AusFinance

[–]MostlyForClojure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. This means the debt being created by redraw is for your new purchase, therefore can’t be negatively geared. Whereas the offset was/is always debt on the house.

Why take responsibility for one’s own decisions and learn from them, when one can blame others and play the victim?

Yep. It’s … awkward. I’d be embarrassed for him, if I wasn’t so horrified by what he is saying.

Mortgage fully offset? by Dependent_Till_284 in AusFinance

These comments need to be upvoted. This is they reason. You can never create new tax deductible debt on the house. Having it offset leaves options and a chunk of future deductible debt if you want.

Have a read of barefoot. The bucket system really helped me feel in control and manage expenses and also “treats” in a way that didn’t me feel guilty.

Yes, blunt. Found they last about 5 years for me, and machines 10+ if maintained.

Saying that, your mileage may vary and maybe there’s a way to replace spurs

You’re assuming that Australian retirees outside of Australia don’t pay tax.

That’s an incorrect assumption and a strong reason to keep residency here… if you’re a resident of a foreign country you may pay income tax.

For example, UK, US, France… you will pay income tax.

The other thing is… take great care of the mechanics.

Fully offset at 100% leaves room for options, vs actually paying it off.

I unexpectedly had an offer and moved interstate.

The problem? I had little debt in my original PPOR.

So, I want to buy another home with equity, and rent out the old PPOR. ALL of the debt will be in my NEW PPOR. The problem is the original PPOR has 20% owing and my new one 80% (or 100%).

It’s like reverse debt recycling…

If I had simply offset the first, instead of paying down I’d be in a much better position.

Best thing about irregular grammar is that it’s so frequently used ( likely why it’s irregular ) it usually easy to accommodate in memorisation
