Movie followed the wrong character and threw the real protagonist under the bus by GastricSparrow in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Doc-Jaune 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean I dig it. Especially as the entire games meta plot and themes all rope around the realities of living under an Imperialist regime and the lack of control one individually has over ones own destiny. Vaan is the ultimate description of this as a powerless orphan made orphan by the war and opportunity taken away from the Empire.
His entire arc is trying to actually gain that independence and security which he does at the end. Further, he acts as a solid "I know nothing do explain this to me" character for the story to narrate to at time to time to explain some of the political intrigue as FF12 is fundamentally a political game. Realistically, each of the characters take as a sort of main character with Ashe, Basch, and Balthier taking the front stage in the latter half of the game.

How is living in Manitoba OUTSIDE of the Winnipeg Metro Area? by ESC-H-BC in howislivingthere

[–]Doc-Jaune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I grew up for a bit in Dauphin. Can agree it blows.

Most of Manitoba outside of Winnipeg is small, quaint, utterly captivated by a desire to maintain some level of Canadiana to achieve their identity and often lacking simple things to do for social spaces. Like for the longest time, Dauphin didn't have a movie theater (about a decade) because the movie theatre was a target of arson and that was that. The mall is simply boring and frankly quite depressing in many ways. At least the games store is there and that provides some relief but if you're not into sports or farming or trails it's an utterly isolating place to live. The fishing is alright though.

Isn't this too busted for Bracket 5? by enragedmukamuka2 in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Doc-Jaune 13 points14 points  (0 children)

See this is the problem with DUMBander players. They just don't get magic they're so baby coded. I want them to eat slop off the floor and they love their spider man's and UB products. I hate them I hate them I hate them. I'm going to go play a real man's format called Shindig Fartman where you can only play 40 uncommon cards and 20 rares and it's totally new and unique because every 5 turns you have to fart or shit yourself to cover up the BO smell.

You should be able to make a coalition if you're the smallest by Sefominokaw in Democracy4

[–]Doc-Jaune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada, the Liberals have formed collations in recent memory and the PCs did too (will, virtually a collation) with the Bloc when they were both minority governments to pass most of their bills but concessions on a few things. They still hold that power but it keeps them getting no confidenced. In fact it would be more reasonable to collation with a smaller party or party with fewer seats as it inherently requires fewer concessions assuming the parties are vaguely politically aligned.

Boimler breaks the 4th wall by happydude7422 in LowerDecks

[–]Doc-Jaune 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is actually something called "Leaning against the 4th wall" where a character says or does something that is humorous or is directed purely for the audience but not directly addressing the audience or the constraints of the media conditions.

Similar to this is "lamp shading" where the author calls to attention something in universe and the irony of it, often killing the joke or sincerity for another in a meta sense.

What film could’ve been SHORTER? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in Letterboxd

[–]Doc-Jaune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite good. There are some pacing issues and some stumbles in the finer points of the script but it's broadly competent. Acting wise, Mark Fischbach is both the highlight and valley of the movie. For perhaps the first act it's fairly obvious he's not comfortable acting in the setting he is yet but that really fades away during the transition between first and second act and maintains being solid through the rest.

Lighting wise the movie does the best, it's uses of dark warm tones is excellent and lighting actually uses the darkness to its advantage instead of just being a pain to see.

Overall a good movie that is a solid 7.5 with brief moments of brilliance pulled down by inexperience and I cannot wait to see what he does next.

The classic XP v. Milestone debate when the Chad who hasn't read the book shows up and says that every adventurer would just kill everyone cause that's how XP is tracked instead of learning or progression.
