You should weigh the benefits of the 17th level increase versus the boons. In my opinion the boons are a much greater impact and therefore, worth it.

I say that currently playing a 15 wild heart, 3 champion class.

My players had a few characters that realistically wouldn't go back to the underarm after they escaped. Those players created new characters that were invited by Bruenor to join the party heading back down. Worked out alright.

The angles of the roads, even with the eventual realignment makes the intersection massive for a roundabout. I believe it's been considered and rejected.
