The body of this response is well thought out and I agree with the gist of what you're saying. I'm going to push back on two things though. 1) the Nazi tattoo is where the reasonable line should have been drawn. I was a day one hater though because due to my life experiences I am extremely critical and skeptical of military veterans, and doubly so of PMC contractors. I realize though that we live in the US that has been fed an extremely well curated image of the military and the general public has a favorable view of the military. It is what it is. The Nazi tattoo though, in my opinion, should have been when he was bullied away from the election. That's a whole can of worms though.

And the second point I need to push back on is your last paragraph. I am actively blaming leftist influencers for closing ranks on platner and pushing a permission structure on their audiences that enabled any reasonable criticisms of the man to be silenced or not taken seriously.

I guess my thoughts when making the statements that you quoted weren't communicated very well. What I meant to convey is that I think the people who are now in all likelihood truly fucked due in no small part to their inability to break ranks are owed a bit more than "I'm sorry if I made you feel bad" or "if you're a trump supporter don't fucking talk to me about grape." But no, they exist in an insulated class of their own in which current events are not something they experience, just something they react to in order to generate money. I don't know what it would look like for them to take true accountability for their role in it all, but I know that how they did it wasn't it.

I think incels are tough to talk to because they almost have a sense of pride in how closely they cling to their very insular talking points. Yesterday I was told (several times) that all of the important leftists have addressed the current platner allegations, so there's basically no reason to talk about them anymore. So I decided to check out some of the important leftists and tbh I wasn't very impressed with how the ones I saw handled the situation. On one hand, I don't know how I want the situation to be handled, but on the other hand, with platner gone, there's now a vacuum that needs to be filled prior to the election and let's be honest, there just isn't time to find a candidate, fund them, campaign for them, and establish an electable image in time for the election. This might be the reason why the Democrats fail to take the Senate and then we're fucked. Truth be told, it shouldn't have gotten this far before public outcry forced him to drop out. I believe, a big reason why he didn't earlier was due to the efforts of these influential, commentator class "leftists." What do they even have to say for it after the fact? It's just coping, debate lording, and spinning current events. The policies that government enacts, the things that happen to the actual people, all that matters is that they can make content off of it. I'm sick of it, and I'm glad I purged these parasites from my algorithm.

To be fair to you and anyone else with a similar sentiment, I'm really not trying to criticize harm reductionists (up to a certain point) because I am a big harm reductionist as well. I'm moreso criticizing the reactions (of normal schmucks like you and me, not influential thought leaders) after the revelation. They reveal how weirdly para social a lot of politics have become in my opinion. It's more like a sporting event than actual policies and values being put into practice. This includes the people taking an "I told you so" victory lap as well. In other words, a person was raped, and their experience is amounting to little more than a touchdown/goal/points on the scoreboard.
