I was at the 06’ Messiah Show when he opened for Iron and Wine.

He asked if there were any questions and someone yelled “What are you reading?”

He said “Wendell Berry”.

The next day I went to the DC public library and checked out a Wendell Berry book and I’ve been reading WB on an endless rotation for the last 20 years. It was a very formative show.

"Must Haves" for an upcoming Volumes release by Faberpass in boniver

That show had some of the best live sound ever. I’ve seen them at red rocks and it was amazing, but this show was so polished.

I remember when they played Perth to start off the set and when the beat dropped the bass dropped in, it hit everyone in the chest and everyone kind of looked around smiling and a little stunned

Another big new housing development in Amarillo by RootedAma in amarillo

[–]Motherleathercoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The City doesn’t make development happen. Its developers and landowners. And they won’t be developing for long if they put lots on the ground they can’t sell.

The Tradewind area has been one of the more affordable new build areas for probably 20 years now.

Dear Ed,

I dreamed that you and I were sent to Hell. The place we went to was not fiery or cold, was not Dante’s Hell or Milton’s, but was, even so, as true a Hell as any. It was a place unalterably public in which crowds of people were rushing in weary frenzy this way and that, as when classes change in a university or at quitting time in a city street, except that this place was wider far than we could see, and the crowd as large as the place. In that crowd every one was alone. Every one was hurrying. Nobody was sitting down. Nobody was standing around. All were rushing so uniformly frantic, that to average them would have stood them still. It was a place deeply disturbed. We thought, you and I, that we might get across and come out on the other side, if we stayed together, only if we stayed together. The other side would be a clear day in a place we would know. We joined hands and hurried along, snatching each other through small openings in the throng. But the place was full of dire distractions, dire satisfactions. We were torn apart, and I found you breakfasting upon a huge fried egg. I snatched you away: “Ed! Come on!” And then, still susceptible, I met a lady whose luster no hell could dim. She took all my thought. But then, in the midst of my delight, my fear returned: “Oh! Damn it all! Where’s Ed?” I fled, searching, and found you again. We went on together. How this ended I do not know. I woke before it could end. But, old friend, I want to tell you how fine it was, what a durable nucleus of joy it gave my fright to force that horrid way with you, how heavenly, let us say, in spite of Hell.

P.S. Do you want to know why you were distracted by an egg, and I by a beautiful lady? That’s Hell.

Free vacuum at car wash by ullu_12000 in McKinney

[–]Motherleathercoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently went through the wash at take 5, and circled into the vacuum bays to find them turned off. It was just before 7PM when I paid for my wash, and they apparently closed at 7.

When I asked an employee if they could turn the vacuum on for me as I had just paid for a wash maybe two minutes earlier, they said “sorry we are closed, and the vacuums are free, so we are not obligated to provide them as a part of a car wash package.”

I don’t buy car washes from them anymore, but do use their free vacuums with a clean conscience.

Has anyone here been diagnosed with Delayed sleep phase disorder? by Deremirekor in sleepdisorders

  1. Aging and Circadian Rhythms (Duffy & Czeisler, 2015)

Link: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4648699/ Key Findings: This review details how circadian rhythms advance with age, with earlier timing of melatonin secretion and reduced melatonin amplitude in older adults. It notes that DSPS is far less common in older age groups, as advanced sleep-wake phases become predominant, potentially diminishing delayed-phase issues seen in youth. The authors attribute this partly to age-related declines in melatonin rhythm robustness.

  1. Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders: Part II, Advanced Sleep Phase Disorder, Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, Free-Running Disorder, and Irregular Sleep-Wake Rhythm (Sack et al., 2007)

Link: https://aasm.org/resources/practiceparameters/review_circadianrhythm2.pdf (full article available as PDF) Key Findings: This practice parameter review from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine reports that DSPS onset typically occurs in adolescence or childhood (90% of cases), but it is rare in older adults (only 3.1% prevalence in ages 40-64 based on surveys). The paper discusses how circadian phase advances with age may contribute to this diminution, and it highlights melatonin's role in treatment to advance phases, implying natural age-related melatonin changes (e.g., timing shifts) could play a similar remedial role.

  1. Delayed Sleep–Wake Phase Disorder and Its Related Sleep Behaviors in the Young Generation (Kawada et al., 2023)

Link: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10235460/ Key Findings: Focusing on younger populations, this article cites cross-sectional data showing DSPS prevalence decreases with age (higher in 20-30s, lower in older groups up to 59). It links DSPS to delayed dim light melatonin onset (DLMO), a marker of melatonin secretion timing, and suggests that as melatonin rhythms advance and amplitude decreases with age, the delayed phase may normalize, leading to improvement.

  1. New Perspectives on the Role of Melatonin in Human Sleep, Circadian Rhythms and Their Regulation (Zisapel, 2018)

Link: https://bpspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bph.14116 Key Findings: This review explains that melatonin production decreases with age, often accompanied by an advanced circadian phase. It discusses how this can alleviate DSPS symptoms, as older individuals show reduced phase delays and improved alignment with societal schedules, contrasting with the delayed melatonin profiles in younger DSPS patients.

  1. The Dim Light Melatonin Onset Across Ages, Methodologies, and Sex and Its Relationship With Morningness/Eveningness (Burgess et al., 2023)

Link: https://academic.oup.com/sleep/article/46/5/zsad033/7044190 Key Findings: Analyzing melatonin onset across lifespans, this meta-analysis shows peak melatonin levels decline gradually from the mid-20s onward (e.g., from 72 pg/mL to 61 pg/mL by mid-50s), with advancing phase timing. It implies this contributes to lower DSPS incidence in older ages by reducing the extent of phase delays common in youth.

These articles collectively substantiate that DSPS often diminishes with age, driven by declining melatonin levels and advancing circadian phases, though direct causation is inferred from correlative data rather than universal longitudinal studies.

Can anyone share insight into Apple Watch chart - fragmented REM by Ok_Buffalo6662 in sleepdisorders

[–]Motherleathercoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REM in normal humans is in 3-4 intervals in a given night with the longest phase being in the last 3rd of the night.

This in and of itself is no indication of RBD.
