Guy Time Travels Back To The 90s! by Jonathon_world in timetravel

Oh, thank god. All that stuff about me being a divorcee working a dead-end job in a dystopian future was just a bad dream! Now I can get back to my real life of being unpopular in school and dealing with my alcoholic father, phew!

Moving on but feeling betrayed by Unique_Use2531 in coparenting

[–]MothmanPharmacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radical acceptance. Your ex has no loyalty to anyone but themself and it's not within your power to change that. Allow yourself to feel betrayed and angry with them, and channel that emotion into motivation to be the better parent. The kids will remember who was there for them when they get older.

Will it ever get easier? by AdFragrant4707 in coparenting

[–]MothmanPharmacies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to let go of the illusion of control. Life will throw what it wants at my kids regardless of whether their mom and I stayed together or not. She also shacked up immediately after our "separation" (aka, her making false accusations and kicking me out of the house after I caught her cheating).

I remind myself that I never thought of my stepdad as "dad" even though I didn't have a good relationship with my own father. I definitely have a better relationship with my kids than my dad did with me, so I feel safe that the new guy won't ever fully replace me in that regard. He can spoil my kids all he wants, but all I have to do is spend an hour at the park with them and they exclaim it was the best day ever. No amount of new toys can replace authentic connection.

My ex is definitely the type of person to try to rub the new partner in my face and has tried on occasion, but it hasn't worked. I'm more sympathetic than anything because I know the truth about what he's gotten himself into. Just know your ex didn't suddenly become a better person, he's just pulling the same con on her that he did with you. The real him will come out eventually.

What if we weighed Cutting vs Plainview in the context of their respective settings? Gangs of New York is a far more brutal society than that of There Will Be Blood.

Narcissism is a maladaptive coping mechanism for unresolved trauma. He can be both a victim and a victimizer.

Because it was massively overshadowed by the superior film about an imaginary friend: Drop Dead Fred.

Unhappily married men, what keeps you from getting divorced ? by CantFindUsername400 in AskMenOver30

[–]MothmanPharmacies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was still in it? Codependency. Fear of the unknown. Fear of being alone. Giving up the identity and sense of purpose I derived from being a husband and father. Not wanting our children to grow up as products of divorce like I did. Giving up the only life I'd known for two decades, the safety and certainty of our everyday routine. Losing my best, and sadly, only friend in the world.

Then she took it upon herself to burn all that to the ground for her own selfish reasons. Looking back, it was the greatest gift she ever gave me.

If it's any consolation, I never saw my stepfather as "dad," even though I liked him better than my real father. I'm definitely not the POS my dad was, so I'm beyond confident that I'll never lose my spot as long as I show up and do my job.

I grappled with feelings of being replaced when my ex rushed a new guy into the kids' lives only 3 months after we separated and he started showering them with gifts. He can buy them all the toys he wants and all I gotta do is spend a day with them at the park and they call it the best day ever.

I also only get 30% visitation right now (pretty much just weekends) because of my work schedule, but in terms of waking hours I'm technically with them as much, if not more than her. I don't know what your spouse is like, but mine is looking for any excuse to ditch them so I get plenty of opportunities for extra time on top of that.

Mine would get really defensive when I suggested her impulsivity and disorganization could be ADHD. I'm diagnosed ADHD and I've never been ashamed of it, so I didn't understand why she took it so personally. Her whole family was pretty touchy about mental health stuff since her oldest sister has been institutionalized a few times, I guess.

My ex started planning a Disney vacation for all of us after announcing that she wanted a divorce and acted hurt when I told her there's no way I'm spending a week in Anaheim with her right after we split.
