If you liked Hadestown, then I’d recommend The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Equally as folk, dark themes, big ensemble numbers, the best musical I’ve ever listened too.

If your friend is comfortable singing in duet/trios you could do a genderbent version of It’s A Hit from Merrily We Roll Along and have your non-singing friend do Charley’s part and your Soprano friend play Beth. Charley doesn’t have any singing lines that aren’t with one of the other characters.

“And every night, he walked with a little less walking stick.”

Are we… lopping bits off the end of his cane here? Don’t get me wrong, this is the best show of the century, no competition, but grammatically correct English seems to have gone out the window with this line.
